Top neighborhoods in Tokyo

Shinjuku

Shinjuku's neon-soaked streets pulse with energy from dusk till dawn. This Tokyo powerhouse mixes business with pleasure as skyscrapers tower over Asia's largest entertainment district. Browse massive department stores like Isetan by day, then dive into Kabukicho's countless bars and clubs after dark. Don't miss cultural gems like Hanazono Shrine tucked between the urban chaos. Getting around couldn't be easier with the world's busiest railway hub connecting you to everywhere in Tokyo. Choose from business hotels in gleaming towers or budget-friendly capsule accommodations. The neighborhood offers everything from quick ramen shops to upscale dining, with most spots open well into the night.

Shibuya

Shibuya's sensory overload is exactly what you came to Tokyo for. The iconic crossing has thousands of people surging across in perfect chaos while towering screens flash overhead. Dining options range from tempura houses to soba shops, with street food vendors offering affordable local treats. Traditional ryokan inns and boutique hotels let you sleep on tatami floors with futon beds. "Very nice and spacious room. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning was very good. If you don't mind walking Toyosu Market and the Toyosu waterfront area is about 20 minutes away. There are a couple of subway stations and convenience stores about 10 minutes away. The Hotel is connected to a mall with restaurants. I would recommend going to the supermarket in the basement for good microwavable food. The are microwave ovens on several floors in the hotel."

10/10 Excellent
"A fabulous hotel with a great location. We used the Club floor facilities and they were excellent and also dined in 2 of the in-house restaurants and enjoyed them both. It was a very calm place to stay in a very hectic and energetic city. Our room looked out at the Tokyo tower which was spectacular especially at night and the nearby gardens offered a tranquil experience after battling the crowds in the city. It was also a short walk to the Hop on hop off bus which made it easy for us to get around and see the main attractions."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Tokyo

  1. Book for the cheapest times: January, August, and September present a budget-friendly time to visit Tokyo, as hotels may drop to lower prices during these months. A stay of at least 2 to 3 days is ideal for exploring key landmarks, historical sites, and cultural attractions such as temples, museums, monuments, urban shopping areas, architectural gems, flower exhibitions, natural parks, and seafood experiences. This affordable period offers great value for money on a budget, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Tokyo's rich history and vibrant culture.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Discover DealsOpens in a new window and Last-Minute Deals to Tokyo on Hotels.com, where you may find attractive hotel deals and recommendations across Japan, including Tokyo. Additionally, enable email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and special promotions. With the Smart Shopping tool available via the app, you're more likely to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you never miss a chance to snag a timely deal.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you save on your Tokyo hotel stay. For those interested in unique experiences, boutique hotels might offer a more personalised service and potentially better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is higher or lower than average. Should the price be on the higher side, we might suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels located near the city centre usually tend to be pricier, but thanks to Tokyo's superb public transport links, you might come across a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby cities, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could offer a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
