About this cabin

Sitting above Sam’s Creek in the Appalachian mountains, we offer a rustic, wormy chestnut 100 year old, updated cabin ( 548 sq. ft. ) with a screen front porch & covered and open side deck with outdoor wood burning fireplace ( we provide a reasonable amount of firewood and have more for purchase ), propane grill, living/queen bedroom, kitchen & full bath with shower. Steps away is a bunkhouse with queen bed, bunk beds with stairs, 2 chairs and full bath with shower. The cabin and bunkhouse are heated and will sleep 1-6 total. We have cards, Uno, checkers, Monopoly, poker chips, the Ring game, cornhole, and have a badminton/croquet court ! Bring your fishin’ pole - we have native brown and rainbow trout in Sam’s Creek - no license required on our private property. It’s like having your own personal park. We now have FIBER INTERNET for your work or school needs. We have a DVR with a 31” tv screen and a nice selection of family movies. We are centrally located between Asheville NC & Johnson City, Tn. - 30 minute drive to either city which are known for their exceptional restaurants, taprooms, arts, and music. We are only 15 minutes from Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, 4 miles from Tennessee’s newest wilderness park - Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park, and 3 miles from the Sam’s Gap crossing of the Appalachian Trail. White-water raft on the world-famous Nolichucky River which is rated in the top 10 rafting trips IN THE WORLD - only 20 minutes from us. Call USA Raft or Wahoo’s Adventures in Erwin,Tn. to make your reservation. Zipline with Navitat in Barnardsville, NC just 30 minutes away. Snow skiing and tubing 15 minutes from here at Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. Lots to do and see in East Tennessee or just stay here, never leave and soak it all in...wade and fish in our own Sams Creek for native and rainbow trout. It’s HEAVEN to us ! We live on our beautiful property, across the creek and in the woods - so, if you need anything at all, just ask/text or come on over... we want our guests to know that this is a very nice and safe area. PLUS, we are dog friendly. We do ask that you inform us on the number and type of dogs (limit of 2) that you are bringing and that you must crate them when you are gone. Sorry, no cats please. You will be held responsible for any damages. We offer fresh towels daily and will remove your trash bags. Last stop for gas or groceries- if you are approaching us from the Asheville area, Mars Hill, NC has a very nice Ingles. If you are approaching us from the Johnson City area, Food City in Erwin is your place. Both grocery stores are just off I-26 and less than 20 minutes from us. Local laundromats are in Erwin, Tn and Weaverville, NC ( 20 minutes east or west ) for our longer-staying guests to take care of their personal items. Call or text as you take Flag Pond, exit 50 and we will greet you at the top of driveway. The property and owners were so friendly and very very helpful during our entire stay. Property was set up in a very relaxed comfortable environment. We all felt right at home. Ms Velda even made cheesecake and Mr Chuck kept us supplied with firewood. Even gave us a history lesson from their property. Very beautiful place to stay. Felt very safe.

    Holyfield cabin and bunkhouse

This property is amazing and we definitely want to return. Valda and Chuck are perfect hosts and have thought of everything to make this a fun place for all. The cabin and bunkhouse was well equipped and beautifully furnished, but most important to us was how superbly clean it was. You could “ eat off the floor” if you so chose. Valda and Chuck greeted us when we arrived and shared the history of the property. We have found a jewel in the Tennessee mountains. Valda left snacks and delicious brownies for us and we did enjoy. We didn’t have time to fully explore because we were there for a wedding in Asheville. Chuck took us on a quick trail and shared his knowledge with us. The 4 of us loved it and so did our furry babies. We have told our friends about it and shared a postcard with the lovely pictures. Our daughter tried to make a reservation to return for my birthday, but the one weekend in October we could go was already booked. We made new friends and left feeling like family. Thank you Valda and Chuck. Wallis and Greg

    Very Pleasant Stay

We had a terrific time at the cabin. Chuck and Valda were great hosts. I would highly recommend the Rocky Fork State Park which is just a few miles up the road. Definitely a gem.

    Great escape

My husband, myself and my adult son spent a week at the cabin abs bunk house. We LOVED our stay! It is such a great place to get away into nature. We woke and fell asleep to the sounds of the creek. We hiked and explored, played games and enjoyed fires in the evening. The hosts are excellent! Simply lovely people. We hope to return.
