Top neighborhoods in Naples

Historical Center

Naples' Historical Center captivates with its UNESCO-listed Greek-Roman street grid and mind-blowing cultural gems. Wander ancient cobblestone alleys to discover the Duomo, where San Gennaro's blood mysteriously liquefies twice yearly. Duck into the Cappella Sansevero to see the jaw-dropping Veiled Christ sculpture or explore underground ruins dating back 2,500 years. Getting around is easiest on foot since narrow medieval streets limit vehicles. Toledo and Municipio metro stations connect you to wider Naples, while Montesanto train station provides regional access. The neighborhood overflows with authentic pizzerias (it's the birthplace of pizza!), artisan workshops, and boutique hotels housed in historic palazzos.

Chiaia

Chiaia dazzles with a glamorous mix of high-end shopping streets, seaside views, and classy eateries. You'll stroll the gorgeous Lungomare promenade where the Bay of Naples meets Mount Vesuvius for a truly jaw-dropping backdrop. Art lovers can duck into Villa Pignatelli to admire period furnishings or explore Palazzo delle Arti Napoli between shopping sprees. Refined restaurants serve elevated Neapolitan cuisine and fresh seafood throughout this elegant district. Getting around is a breeze with three metro stations and wide sidewalks perfect for exploring on foot. Boutique hotels and luxury B&Bs in converted palazzos make for stylish stays away from the city's bustling center.

Vomero

Perched on a hill above Naples, Vomero offers a perfect blend of cultural richness and peaceful retreat. Castel Sant'Elmo crowns the neighborhood with breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Villa Floridiana's terraced gardens provide a leafy escape from city life. Art lovers can explore baroque treasures at the Carthusian Monastery while theater enthusiasts enjoy performances at Diana Theater. Elegant trattorias and upscale boutiques line Via Scarlatti and Via Luca Giordano. Three funicular railways and metro stations make getting around a breeze despite the steep terrain. Refined B&Bs in converted palazzos offer accommodation with character, many featuring terraces that showcase stunning panoramic views.

Mergellina

Stroll along Mergellina's stunning seafront promenade and soak up the Bay of Naples views with Mount Vesuvius on the horizon. This authentic Neapolitan neighborhood balances tourist appeal with local charm. Take a boat excursion from the marina filled with luxury yachts or explore landmarks like Villa Doria d'Angri and Virgil's Tomb. Upscale seafood restaurants and traditional pizzerias line the waterfront, while residential streets reveal local life. Two metro stations make getting around a breeze, with easy connections to central Naples and island ferries to Capri and Ischia. The wide, tree-lined promenade offers perfect sunset views after a day of exploration.

San Ferdinando

San Ferdinando serves up Naples' greatest hits with a side of seaside swagger. The Royal Palace and medieval Castel Nuovo tower over streets where history feels alive and kicking. Stroll the scenic Lungomare promenade for knockout views of Mount Vesuvius across the bay. Theater lovers can peek inside the red velvet splendor of Teatro San Carlo, while shoppers get lost in the golden light of Galleria Umberto I. Upscale restaurants near the palace dish out refined Neapolitan cuisine, while hidden side-street pizzerias offer authentic flavors. Catch the Metro at Chiaia-Monte di Dio or Municipio stations to zip around town. The area's boutique hotels occupy converted noble residences, putting you steps from the harbor where island-bound ferries await.

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Naples

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Naples is during January, February, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For a budget-friendly trip, it's recommended to stay for at least 2 to 3 days to fully immerse yourself in the city's rich history and culture. During your visit, you can explore iconic landmarks, delve into museums, admire historical monuments, and relax in charming cafés. Don't miss the opportunity to visit stunning churches, partake in guided tours, enjoy sightseeing, indulge in some shopping, and explore magnificent castles. With careful planning, you can enjoy great value for money while experiencing all that Naples has to offer.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: For your trip to Naples, you may discover savings by checking out Hotels.com's DealsOpens in a new window section and the Last-Minute Deals area for discounted hotels near your travel date. You can also enable email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and special promotions. Moreover, the Smart Shopping tool in the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, so if rooms become available or prices drop, you're more likely to be notified for a last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate based on various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates may help you find a better deal for your stay in a hotel in Naples. If you're seeking something a bit different, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and can sometimes offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we'll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher end, we may suggest alternative dates that could be more affordable, helping you to potentially find a more advantageous rate.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre typically come at a higher price, but thanks to Naples's excellent public transport links, you might find a more affordable independent hotel further afield that’s still well connected.
