Good stay but had some niggles!
The hotel is in a great location and has excellent common areas, bar, breakfast room and function rooms. It is a very grand and old building which has benefited from a recent refit. Sadly I didn't get chance to use the gym as we had other activities planned, but I did go down and look around and the facilities looked good! I stayed during the first weekend of August '20 and we went for my girlfriend's birthday. We stayed in a 'Superior Room King Bed' which was located on the second floor. [Pros] The room was a great size and had brilliant sized TV, iron & iron board, drinks facilities and contemporary interior. Good sized bathroom also and the room was clean throughout with a very comfy bed. [Cons] Our shower had a leak which had been patched with electrical tape which kept leaking and spraying up onto the ceiling and all other the bathroom floor. The showers had great pressure but we had to use the showers barely turned on to prevent water from spraying everywhere. We also noticed our room had a fairly sizable gap under the door which let light in from the corridor. Additionally, our room only had one robe. We let reception know about the leak in the room and asked for an additional robe, as well as, an ice bucket as my girlfriend bought her favourite wine for the weekend. We were told they'd fix the shower and send up an extra robe but neither happened. We were also given a pint glass of ice as they were out of wine coolers. Parking is difficult on a Saturday.

First trip to see family post Lockdown.
Upon arrival our room with a tub & walk-in shower had been allocated to someone else. We were moved on day 2 to Room 503, very nice room but not much of a view! The towel rails in both rooms were on full blast and we were told it is activated by things on in the room, light, hot tap running etc. So were provided with a fan. It was 23C outside, so was overbearingly hot. The service was good but food not wonderful. Receptionists, particularly Molly, were very helpful the whole stay. We probably wouldn’t stay again but ok for a night or so.

Family Stay
Great family weekend, especially as we could take our dog. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Location is great, only a short walk to town and plenty of room in the grounds. Only slight frustration was on service time, we waited quite some time for drinks we ordered to arrive, however, this could be due also to impact of Covid, so just a small observation

Not happy with the price as we paid £144 we paid extra for breakfast and the hotel we were booking in another couple paid £79 you pride yourselves as being cheaper.the gym and pool were closed and there was no cooked breakfast so I’m afraid that I won’t be boowith yourselves again And I won’t recommend you either

Happy/not happy!
Lovely hotel, only left us x3 biscuits & 3 tea bags, were 4 in our party, only x2 cups, did not replace tea/milk on our second morning. There was a big damp patch on the wall & around the window frame/flaking paint (room 423) but, other than that, great location, reasonably priced & would stay again but, hopefully in a better room! birthday celebration so, would have been better if perfect...!

Fair 4.0
Good location, poor customer service
Good location, but poor customer service, booked a suite as the photos looked impressive but sure we were given a standard double on arrival. Complained several times as no stocked mini fridge or coffee machine in our room as advertised in deluxe and suite rooms and the TV had no signal, gave up after the 4th time speaking to was ok, jacuzzi out of order and steam room didn’t have the usual fresh menthol smell just sweaty people smell, nowhere to hook your towels/ bathrobes and no changing cubicles in the changing rooms in the pool area. Not the cleanest hotel I’ve stopped in and noticed holes in our pillow cases and previous guest body hair in the bathroom. It’s a shame as it has potential to be an excellent hotel in a brilliant location but it’s let down by the customer service and a few other niggles. It’s like all the staff are brand new and never worked in customer service before. Some parts of the hotel look great and some look tired even though they have tried to make it appear like new. There’s also no air con in the rooms just a fan in the wardrobe.

Spring visit
The rooms and staff were brilliant but the service at evening meal was very bad. The main courses took too long to arrive and were cold. We informed the hotel and ate out on our last night.

Very pleased with every bit of our stay, from the spacious room, peaceful spa & pool to the fantastic breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
