Find out more about Boracay Island

Boracay Island Introduction

Long stretches of beach with dazzlingly white sand, a balmy, crystalline sea, and sunsets so dramatic they take your breath away. It's no wonder Boracay consistently ranks high on lists of the best islands in the world. A small mass of land measuring just about 10 square kilometers, there's nevertheless no shortage of unbelievably beautiful natural attractions, fun things to do in the water and on land, and culinary delights that entice visitors from all over the world to visit and travel around Boracay Island.

Hotels in Boracay Island

Hotels in Boracay Island number in the hundreds, catering to every type of traveler, from the filthy rich to middle-class vacationers to backpackers on a shoestring budget. Most Boracay hotels and resorts are situated just a few minutes' walk from, if not right on, the beachfront. Splurging on a room or suite in a luxury hotel will usually afford you with an opulent room with an expansive view of the beach and the sea. These 5-star hotels usually also have upscale restaurants and swimming pools. Apartments and aparthotels often have units with more than one bedroom, and which usually come with fully equipped kitchens. Budget-friendly options such as B&Bs and hostels feature fan-cooled rooms or dorm-style accommodations.

Where to stay

The famous 4-kilometer White Beach on the western side of the island is informally divided into Boat Stations 1, 2, and 3, from when boats were still allowed to dock in the area. Many luxury hotels in Boracay are in Station 1 and the adjoining Diniwid Beach, which is said to have the softest, most powdery white sand and the calmest waters. Partygoers prefer the Station 2 area with its vibrant nightlife, while discount hotels in Station 3 are popular among diving enthusiasts. Many cheap Boracay hotels can also be found on Bulabog Beach, on the western part of the island, the go-to place for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Things to see

Puka Beach in the north is where you might want to head if you want to escape the madding crowd of White Beach. There are no hotels or resorts on this beach, only a few thatched stores that sell refreshments. Play a relaxed game of beach volleyball, or watch the locals collect puka shells that they use to make fashion accessories and decorative ornaments. The viewing deck on Mount Luho in the northeast offers a majestic bird's-eye view of the gorgeous beaches and verdant terrain. It's a scenic hike to reach the top of this towering rock formation, and you might even chance upon some stealthy macaques observing you as you make your way up the trail. The awe-inspiring bat caves in Yapak are also worth seeing. For a nominal fee, a guide will take you through a lush forest and around imposing boulders before you reach the stalactite-rich caves, where the fruit bats live.

How to get to Boracay Island

Boracay Island is a quick 15-minute boat ride away from the jetty port in Caticlan jetty port, through which all visitors must pass. The most convenient way to go to Caticlan is to fly in and land at the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport or Kalibo International Airport. An overnight ferry service from Batangas City goes to Caticlan several times a week, while provincial buses from Manila and air-conditioned vans from neighboring provinces stop near the port. Tricycles are the main mode of public transportation on Boracay island itself. Bicycle cabs traverse the Beachfront Path on White Beach. You can also rent bicycles or scooters to explore Boracay at your leisure.
