I liked staying in the building. The room was cleaned everyday by very nice Ukrainian ladies. The room was air-conditioned, it had a mini fridge with some drinks and snacks. They supplied fresh towels and toiletries daily.
The office staff were amazingly helpful with my first-time-in-Ukraine needs. They ordered transportation for me when needed, gave directions, and made recommendations for activities.
The restaurant was quaint and delightful. The food was pleasantly tasty with a reasonable selection for a small hotel restaurant. Two servers, Inna and Anna took excellent care of my dining needs for the entire stay.
If one can consider it a drawback, they advertised a laundry service which wasn't available for guests. Upon studying the map of surrounding area, everything one would need is within walking distance.
While their staff English isn't fluent, a phone translator will get you by.
I would recommend the Gonchar Hotel to travelers who don't care about flashy decor or 5-star amenities--just a comfortable stay in the historical part of town. Thank you to the staff of the Gonchar Hotel for making my stay comfortable.
