The check in lady was really lovely. Following payment of a further 50$ for early check in and room upgrade (from a musty smelling, claustrophobic basement to a room on the ground floor with private bathroom) the walls were very thin and next door’s ’bathroom time’ was easily heard which wasn’t particularly pleasant. The bed was a hard slab and not very comfortable. The placement of the lavatory could have been better as it was a tad of a squeeze, particularly if you’re tall. However the room (albeit a bit on the small side) was clean, as was the communal corridor.
Most disappointingly though, that despite there being a kettle on the property photos, there are none available to make hot drinks in the room (or anywhere within the premises!) also, unlike other places we’ve stayed, the other people were not particularly respectful of fellow guests and were noisy until late with heavy walking, talking loudly into their speaker phones and the first night there was a baby crying in the adjacent room.
The location however is brilliant, with bars and food places nearby, giving a vibrant and eclectic vibe. There’s really good transport links into the city (buses and streetcars) which run until late.
