8/10 Very good

It was in the old centre of the city, and walking distance which was brilliant. Also close to the river and cathedral which we liked visiting.

Great little hotel will be coming back

We booked to go to the races and choose ye old Talbot and glad we did the hotel is bit dated but it goes with the hotel which is an old building and quirky managed to book the four poster bed which is comfy and had good night's sleep after the races we decided to eat there and rather than pick something of main course we went for 6 starters and food was excellent standard and well worth the money only downside which was stated no car park but there is one next door £11.00 for the night and not sure if was the boiler but came on during night did make nit of a noise

Shawn, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Perfect little place to stay with a pub directly downstairs. Our bin in the bathroom wasn't empty when we arrived, but this was likely just forgotten by housekeeping - not a big issue. Would stay again!
Filip, 2-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

The staff were very friendy and polite. The breakfast was sufficient and very good value. The room was a little too warm for my liking but better that than being cold. I would certainly stay here again.
JOHN, 2-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Lovely pub/hotel. Historic so rooms are character rather than modem hotel. Staff were amazingly helpful, polite and happy. Food was great breakfast one of the best I have had continental plus full English. Dinner was great too.

Wouldn't stay again

Rooms are dated Musty smell in the bar Breakfast was over cooked Room incredibly hot, open window to cool and traffic noise Evening bar service was great however
1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Clean, basic, good value.

Good value room. Clean. Everything needed and although a little old fashioned in places, fits the characterful building. TV and kettle. Some efforts underway to maintain and redecorate. You need to let the shower run for at least 2-3 min for the hot water to come through, but good flow and pressure. Staff helpful and convenient location for the City centre, just by the cathedral. There is a very handy NCP next door, which was £11.95 for an overnight stay at the time of writing, or £9.95 if you had preloaded and registered with the NCP app. Didn’t have the opportunity to try a meal or breakfast but the food looked good from a distance!

Ricky, 1-night trip

No heating on,just a portable radiator, did not heat up room enough. Room very dark, even with all the lights on. Very noisy, could hear people in other rooms and woken up by clanging and banging at 7am from restaurant below.
Andrew, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Overnight stay.

The staff were amazing. Very friendly and professional. Room was nice enough. Pretty basic but nice. Coffee & tea making facilities. Large bathroom. Amazing shower. Power shower. I didn’t want to get out from under it. Very hot too which was fantastic. Bed was very comfortable. The restaurant and bar was equally as good. Food was lovely and tasty. Overall a very nice place to stay. Central to where I needed to go. Would definitely stay here again and I would highly recommend anyone to stay here.
Rebecca, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

The staff that checked me in was lazy and uninterested in guiding me to my room. Abd i got lost inside so many time. You will have to wait till eternity at the reception before someone comes to answer you. The building was very old and looked very dirty, my toilet wasn't flushing very well. The heaters weren't working. No telephone gadget to reach out to the reception where necessary.
Ebenezer, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Tired and a little overpriced

Slightly tired hotel, overpriced for the facilities provided. Comfort is adequate. A fan was provided in my room, but this barely compensated for inability to open windows fully on hot evenings: the fan was laughably underpowered. Room service was cursory: my bed was remade once during a three night stay, but this consisted of straightening the duvet. Food is provided in the pub below: I did not try the food but the menu is extensive and typical of a chain pub. Reception is largely unstaffed. The hotel does not provide spare or additional keys, which is a resilience issue.
Martyn, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Great location.Good value for money.
Peter, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Good service and food. Rooms slightly dated need modernising
STEVE, 3-night trip

6/10 Good

It was fine for an over night stay, but rooms need updating. Beds were comfortable and good strong shower. Rooms at front of hotel if a warm night, are noisy with window open, so not ideal. That said, it was reasonably priced, so not too bad all in all.
