Hotel Zafiro is a tribute to dangerous informality.
For starters, the infrastructure consists of an old residential home converted into a so called boutique hotel. There are no evacuation or scape routes since the rooms and hallways lack fire exits and/or windows. I am not an expert, but this must constitute a violation to the fire safety code of most American cities.
Second, Hotel Zafiro offers paid amenities such as a shuttle service to different parts of the city in privately owned vehicles, not UBER like, they use unlicensed and uninsured cars for public service; even in Colombia that is illegal.
Next, Since there is a lack of windows and circulating air, sheets and towels have a stale smell to add to a claustrophobic feeling.
In addition, Hotel Zafiro lodges large groups, such was the case during my stay, with out having the appropriate infrastructure. During my stay they lodged a large group of kids crammed in the tiny social areas such as very small pantry and a small living room turned temporarily into a dining room. Imagine a crowded college dorm with a very, very small day room, exactly a chaotic atmosphere.
Last but not least, Hotel Zafiro sells itself online or using e-commerce as a, "Boutique Hotel," a very over employed name for a place that does not facilitate shampoo, lotion, or even a bath cap.
In conclusion Hotel Zafiro is a dangerous tribute to informality.
