Wonderful Stay
Our stay was under unusual conditions. There had been a major rain storm in the past few days with some severe flooding. Despite this our stay was excellent. We spent a fair amount of time at the bar and the food and the service was exceptional. Loved the room as well.

So much potential
This is an amazing location - really awesome - and I must admit as a business trip - this is probably not the norm for guests - as there is not a lot of business around. However the awesome place could do with a little professionalism to make the stay amazing. Having so many menu items missing (including basics like steak, chicken and pork was an issue). a very limited menu options for vegetarians and not much willingness to assist in making menu changes. Service was also really slow considering the restaurant was not busy (e.g. an additional side of chips took well over an hour - and arrived as we were leaving - and we were still charged). Rock pool was empty - no soap in shower/bath - bar had limited stock available. BUT - that said - these can be fixed very easily by service focus. The location is amazing - wonderful atmosphere - facilities are in good condition - very restful - staff are friendly and pleasant. Just work on the small things!

Way outdated and pictures don’t match in a sense the reality.
Actually a lovely place with loads of potential but without care and maintenance not the best to stay with…given reviews this goes a while now and still is.

Worst experience ever - don’t be fooled by photos
The photos on their website and hotels.com belie the delapidated state. The pool is green, the grounds dirty and unkept. The rooms had an open geyser in the entrance hall- exposed copper pipes and all. We asked for a refund and drove straight home the same day. This property is completely misreprented.

No water!
The property has great potential however some things can't be ignored. On arrival into our room, there was a strong urine smell in the bathroom. The toilet had not been cleaned. We overlooked this. Of course load-shedding is a huge issue in South Africa and makes your stays harder. The swimming pool was green and had algae. Not safe for an infant to be in that water. With 35deg celcius it hard to keep cool. We also had no running water our entire stay. 24hrs without water is awful. The hotel and staff were no where to be found after 6:30pm. When we checked out again not a soul around. We had to depart early as we had a game drive booked. We later returned to the property to pay our food and beverage bill as it was not possible to settle our bill before departure or after 6:30pm the day before. Travelling with an infant is hard enough but under these conditions it was unbearable. Hotels.com should remove this property.

Geheimtipp

Not quite what we saw advertised online
The photos online looked amazing; it seemed to be the perfect stop-over after 8 hours of driving for a good night's rest. The receptionist was a little surly on check-in, and seemed rushed through the introduction, but all admin was taken care of. We had a lovely dinner and drinks at the bistro and bar where the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Our room had not been swept, there were still ashes in the fireplace, and general maintenance seemed lacking. After dinner we turned in to find that there was no hot water - not that there was water that didn't get hot - there was NO water (hot) from any of the taps; so cold shower it was. We were too tired and it was too late to try and find someone to have this see to. I had hoped that this place would be one we could return to for a longer stay. It has great bones and potential to be great, but it needs attention to maintenance and cleanliness urgently.

Karoo Surprise
What a pleasant surprise. Nice location. Big room with all the amenities. Cotton sheets. Heater blanket as night was below zero. Excellent dinner. Small menus but food was very good. Best lamb chops I’ve had in years. Breakfast was continental. Ordered hot breakfast. Value for money excellent.
