Stay away from this slum
Worst stay at a hotel in my whole life. Right from the check in. Nobody there speaks english (neither of the day/night receptionists) to begin with. Not possible to communicate. Hotel is LAME. Absolutely disgusting. Smell is horrible. Smell of the room made me want to vomit. Couldnt stand sleeping in those conditions it really smells like mold in the room and in the whole building. Cigarette buds scattered around the place. Carpet torn. Room not clean at all, mold and dirt pretty much everywhere. Room key did not work (it turned out the receptionist set it up for a different room when I checked in, at 2 AM). The housekeeper opened the door for me and just told me to "sleep and we will see that tomorrow" ... So I was stuck in a hotel room with no key to get it. The worst part of my stay was definitely the smell of the room. They neverrrr air out the freaking room !! I initially booked 2 nights but figured I couldnt stay longer in that hotel so I left and spent the 2nd night elsewhere. Obviously I did not get refunded for the night I did not spend, to top it all of. Worst hotel experience ever. And hotels.com rated it "fair" (with 2.3/5 ... I should have double checked) If this is "fair" I can safely guess that hotels.com standards are extremely twisted. Anyway stay away from this hotel. Really

Great location, disorganized and dingy
I first booked two nights at Lian Bang, for a double room with a view. One of the front desk people had enough English to help me check in easily. I was pretty sure something had gone wrong, though, when I got to my room and definitely had one of the bargain business suites, with no window. I went back to the desk and told them, and they gave me a new room key. This room was much cozier, and had a window overlooking the Zhizaoju Rd as well as a very decent bathroom. It also had a layer of dirt about 5 in wide all around the floor, threadbare towels, and garbage between the bed and the wall that nobody had noticed. The next afternoon, I was relaxing in my room enjoying the fast (but often disconnected) wifi when someone came to my door, rubbing her fingers together and saying "Money." She radioed the English-speaking admin, who told me that I hadn't paid and had to leave. I was astonished and showed her my Expedia booking again. Eventually she said "Ok, I think you are right" and left. I booked four more nights. On my last day, the maid came an hour before checkout and did the money-fingers thing again...and again right at checkout. She radioed the front desk, and pushed me(!) toward the ringing phone, where someone said "check out" a few times. I was nearly packed when she came back 45 mins later & radioed someone, who used a translator app to tell me that I hadn't paid enough. I showed her my bags and said I was flying home that night. 30 mins later I was gone.

You definitely get what you pay for! It was fine for us as we had a quick weekend trip and didn't stay in the hotel much, but don't expect too much! It was dirty and old, but the location is good. Fine if you're just in for a quick trip!

Great bang for your buck!
A lot of the reviews are accurate, its not a fancy hotel but if you want bang for buck, this is the spot. We were comfortable in our room. Yes, walls are thin but the beds were very comfortable and there were great comforters to keep us warm in the winter conditions. Also, the decor is AMAZING! You can spend hours looking at all the bits and bobs they have collected and displayed throughout the hotel. We always felt very safe and secure. Easy to navigate the city and a 8 minute walk to the metro. There are several phenomenal food areas that are 1km and less. Will definitely stay again!

Ok hotel. Get what you pay for with this one.
Only one staff member spoke English and she was only around when we checked out. Breakfast was included all be it not very good. Overall with this one you get what you pay for. Not a bad choice if your not picky and trying to save some cash.

Cheap hotel, its good but don't expect too much.
This was an inexpensive hotel, perfect for me for one night. The bed was hard, and the complimentary breakfast left a lot to be desired, but I was happy with the price of the hotel stay. The sauna downstairs is a good way to relax after my travel to Shanghai. This hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the metro station.

This 'secret' expedia deal had a well hidden secret. You book a 'hotel', but you get to sleep in an old KTV facility.

I came to this city by business. And I reserved a room online, paid for breakfast too. Room was too small. Breakfast had nothing to eat but egg. All Chinese food. It should be half star motel.

Lian Bang... bang bang
Hello.. worst receptionists are found here. They are really like there to collect money from you. Its like you had borrowed some money in past and niw they are asking it when you are there to check in. If you know Chinese and after checked in if you can manage everything on your oqn then location wise and budget wise this hotel is awesome. Good connectivity by public transport to all big places of interest in shanghai. Hotel is little old but manageable. You do not get wifi across entire building or rooms. It seems only big range rooms have better internet connectivity. No request will be entertained. You just stay and manage on your own. Go to reception only at the time of check in and check out. However for personal benefit this hotel is good. Rgds, KK
