Go for a bike ride and try the cycle lift
Let your romance blossom from the seat of a bike
- Adventure
- Couples
The best way to see Trondheim is probably from the seat of a bike. This is a city with a relatively small center, which makes it easy to get around. Imagine whizzing through the streets side by side with your loved one, stopping for a breather whenever you fancy.
Perhaps the most interesting of Trondheim's cycle pit stops is the Trampe cycle lift, which goes up one of Bakklandet's steepest and most challenging slopes. It starts at Gamle Bybro and is open to everyone.

The Nidar chocolate factory is located in Strindheim and pumps out the most delicious treats you can imagine almost every day. Even though the factory outlet is closed two days a week, the selection of sweet goods behind their counter is so big that even the pickiest sweet eaters can satisfy their sweet cravings here.
And you can count on grabbing a few bargains in the factory's shop too. The chocolate here is often heavily reduced in price due to production errors, such as printing errors on the packaging or other irregularities.

Ice skating
The most romantic thing to do in winter?
- Adventure
- Couples
There are few cities in Norway with as proud traditions for ice skating and other winter sports as Trondheim. From cross-country skiing to ski jumping, and alpine skiing, all of these winter sports point to a long and award-winning history for the clubs located in and around the city.
And it was usually the clubs you had to go through to get access to ice skating indoors in Trondheim, until the municipality and some private companies decided to make a great outdoor ice rink in Dokken by Solsiden. Weather permitting, it is open to everyone, and you can hire all the equipment you need here.

Stop off at a cozy café in Bakklandet
Enjoy each other's company over a hot drink
- Couples
- Food
Cobbled streets, colorful wooden houses facing the Nidelva, and plenty of charming cafés and restaurants are what make Bakklandet so popular. A city centre district where people actually live is no longer that common, but in Bakklandet you feel like you've gone back to a pleasant and not too distant past.
The ethos of the cafés here is about putting good local produce and plenty of passion into what they serve, and often with the sort of added extras you won't get in the city's big chains.
