It's an original ...
Very cool building, quirky decor that makes the most of a historical building. The restaurant is atmospheric and the food / wine was great. A shortish walk to many interesting places, shops, museums. Only downside is that the internet seems to date from the 18th century ...

Charming historic hotel, but lukewarm shower
Delightful, historic hotel brimming with charm. Staff was attentive, helpful, and very polite. The restaurant is quite good as well, and reasonably priced. My only complaint is that my room's water heater was not working properly, and produced only lukewarm water in the shower.

I'll be back.
I loved my stay. Creaky floors, hodgepodge of mixmatched well worn antiques and art, updated only where needed for functionality... For me it was the perfect cozy time capsule. Don't come here if you are looking for vending machines, elevators and a TV in your room. Lovely restaurant and drinks too.

Great Staff
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel is in a great location, quiet, but near the metro and restaurants and bars. The decor is varied and fun. The room was big and comfortable (though the bathroom was a little tight). Most importantly, though, the staff was phenomenal. Everyone went out of their way to be friendly. I would come back just for that.

Not recommended!
I don’t recommend unless you’re in a pinch for money and location. The property is very old and creepy. It’s not quaint it’s just uncomfortably old. Everything squeaks. There’s no elevator, no proper shower, just a corner in a makeshift bathroom, and the water took a very long time to heat. Plus the pillows are terrible, really old lamps, no TV, barely found an outlet, old curtains and old blinds that do not keep the light out.

Not for everyone's taste perhaps
Stayed in the penthouse suite. Last-minute booking, quite affordable and unique for this neighborhood -- but there are caveats. The penthouse is a large, open apartment-like space with sitting areas, a kitchen/dining area, two beds (king and double), and a bathroom with a tub. Very cool and unique space, much larger than you would get at newer corporate hotels for this price. I could have lived here for a week. It was quiet with no creaking or disturbance from other guests. The ambience especially in the evening is chill and dare I say romantic. There are a lot of stairs to get up there, so it may be challenging for the elderly or those with a ton of bags. The furniture and fixtures are functional but dated (this is what you sign up for when you stay at Tabard Inn imo). The bed was comfortable and I slept soundly. The shower was a bit awkward -- small space, water gets on the floor, and the hot water only lasted for about 5 minutes. I was shivering by the end. It was my first time staying at Tabard Inn, and I think it helps to look at it as an experience. Try to remind yourself that it is an "inn", not a "hotel" like a Marriott or Hyatt. If you have stayed at similar places (in Europe perhaps?) or bed & breakfasts without all the modern amenities, then you are more likely to appreciate your stay at Tabard Inn. I think the restaurant and bar is still the star, but I'm glad to have stayed here at least once in my life. It really is a unique and historical place.

Unique place...
It is a very, very old building. The front desk staff were great. However, if you have allergies this may not be the best choice. I ended up with a migraine an hour after arriving as im allergic to dust and such. Our room had an odd step up to the bathroom which was a hazard especially when waking during the night...not ideal for folks in their sixties. It was a unique one-night stay. The room was unique but wasnt exactly 😕 what i had envisioned. No television was odd. To get our room we walked through the restaurant. We did the off site parking as it was $24.00 less. That was a benefit as it was parking overnight until 5pm the next day.

Dangerous bath room!
The room I stayed in was a lawsuit waiting to happen. The bathroom consisted of a large clawfoot tub with a shower installed over it. There was no shower curtain, so water sprayed all over the bath area which was not a separate room from the bed. The tub was in a sunken tile enclosure that was almost a foot from a raised tile-covered area which also held the toilet. So, to step out of the tub onto a water covered platform a foot from the tub was scary. It was very slippery and there was only a terry cloth bath mat which was soaked. I nearly slipped and lost my balance, but there NO GRAB BARS. It is an extremely dangerous situation that could result in serious injury. I would not stay in that room again!
