4/10 Fair
January 20, 2020
Although the staff were reasonably nice, the building is beautiful, and the room had heating, we experienced several disappointing things. We are not going back.
The location: The neighborhood was very loud (this was a Friday night), and it is not particularly easy to reach the port. Taxis had to go pretty far out of the way, and if traffic was bad, really far out of the way, to get there. One taxi ride to the port cost me 15 MDH, but the return was just 5.
Taxi: And speaking of getting to the port, we asked the hotel to call a taxi for us (three of us, with just one suitcase) at 7 am. They called a grand taxi, which charged us 40 MDH for that same 5 dirham ride. Perhaps I should have thought of that beforehand, but anyway their judgement was very poor, and I wish they had at least given me the information. But they didn't, which tells me they do this regularly. As in so many places in this country, we were just another set of walking euros.
Food: We ate at the hotel's restaurant, which was truly disappointing. The "soupe de légumes" was bland, and the "vegetarian" tagine had clearly been cooked in lamb. Blech. 30 euros, all together — by far our most expensive meal in the country — and we couldn't stomach the main course.
As I said, we'll not be going back, thank you.
