Cielo Sky Bar & Restaurant in Bangkok hits the right notes with a great view, affordable prices and plenty of front-row seats for the Sukhumvit sunsets. With so many rooftops in Bangkok, it’s important to stand out from the crowd, and although it has an out-of-the-way location and an uninspiring entrance via an apartment building, it’s worth a trip to see the 180-degree cityscape from the 46th floor.

Cielo Sky Bar features and how to get there

The easiest way to get to Cielo Sky Bar is to travel to BTS Skytrain station Pra Kannong and use exit 3. From here it’s only a short 5-minute walk to the Luk Condominium. Stroll through the complex past the Max Valu supermarket, and the entrance to Cielo is on the right-hand side. Step out of the elevator on the 46th floor and you'll see a formal dining room, decorated in cream and black with a large chandelier hanging from the double-height ceiling. The bar and lounge is to the right and has a more laid-back vibe and a warm glow from the backlit champagne bar and gentle lighting.

Both the restaurant and lounge have large windows, but the real attraction is outside. The large terrace has sofas, chairs and tables, cleverly spaced so that no-one hears their neighbours but that also allow the maximum amount of people to sit with uninterrupted views of Bangkok. From here, the Chao Praya River is visible and, in the distance, lower Sukhumvit twinkles thanks to its sky-scraping condos and shopping malls.

Heights and cocktails at Cielo Sky Bar

Another highlight for those who aren’t afraid of heights is the skywalk, a rather unique glass walkway that gives you the impression of floating 46 floors up. It’s a head rush and not recommended if you're acrophobic, unless someone is there to hold your hand. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service friendly and efficient.

Rooftop bars are synonymous with cocktails, and there’s a respectable selection here, including decent versions of the classics: pina colada, mojito and mai tai and mocktails, although these tend to be on the sweet side. Their range of beers and wines is very reasonably priced compared to other sky bars in Bangkok.

Dining at Cielo Sky Bar

The food is also extremely good value and there's a range of international dishes and tapas bites available. For those who just want something quick with their drinks, the choice includes sticky barbeque chicken wings, bruschetta and spring rolls. The large plates include duck confit in an orange sauce with sauté potatoes, tenderloin topped with foie gras and pumpkin, and salmon with scallop gratin in a rich lobster sauce.

Cielo Sky Bar is charming and keeps things simple, providing all the ingredients needed for a great Bangkok rooftop experience. The crowds are absent, an evening here is affordable and the outdoor terraces faces the sunset, with a fantastic perspective over the city and the Chao Phraya River.
