Bergen's seven mountains are popular places to go out all year round, but there is something magical about looking down over the city from Fløyfjellet or Ulriken when the sun is low in the sky in January. Then the lights become even more magical, and the atmosphere in the forest becomes enchanting and inviting.
If you hunt around a bit - and book well in advance - you may be lucky enough to get a ride with a horse and sled, especially on days with extra snow in the mountains. At Fløyfjellet you can also enjoy a Christmas dish of western specialties in the run-up to the vacations.

In the countryside around Trondheim you will find several cabins that offer dining, and each of them is nice both as a destination in itself and to take a breather on the slopes if you are out on a longer ski trip.
Markahyttene are pleasant, serviced cabins where both hot and cold beverages are often served, as well as a selection of bakery items and smaller dishes. And there's nothing better than a cup of hot chocolate and freshly baked waffles when you've been skiing. Perfect if you are on a long trip and need a break and a little extra energy. Bymarka has a good selection of cabins, and several of them are located in very idyllic surroundings.

The Helleneset outdoor area sticks out in the middle of the Byfjord between the mainland and Askøy, and offers excellent facilities and a lovely view of the shipping lane. Good bathing conditions and a relatively central location only a 15-minute bus ride from the center make this a very popular area, and it gets crowded on hot summer days.
There is a small, sheltered sandy beach and a pool for the little ones, but also boulders and diving boards for the more experiences swimmers. There are toilet and shower facilities and a kiosk selling refreshments. Climbing enthusiasts can combine bathing with bouldering or climbing in bolted routes, including routes suitable for beginners and children.

If you come to Bergen by automobile, from the south on the E39, you drive straight across Danmarksplass. From this angle, the neighborhood may seem a bit dull, but if you park up and take a walk past the houses and people here, you'll soon change your mind.
The buildings with facades facing the square itself include many famous shops and brands, but head round the back of the same buildings and you'll find small, cozy cafés and grocery stores. The light rail stops at Danmarksplass, which also makes it easy to get here by public transportation from the city centre.

With a rural location outside Trondheim, Klæbu is one of the places where you might be lucky enough to see the northern lights. Today, Klæbu is part of Trondheim and is half an hour's drive southeast of the city centre, but it used to be a separate municipality.
If you find yourself in a slightly remote place with little light around, you'll have more chance of seeing this almost magical phenomenon, which continues to enchant people from all over the world. And hopefully it will be your turn to be enchanted!

Liabakken offers the most accessible ski and toboggan run in Oslo, and is perfect for anyone who hasn't tried these activities before. For many children and young people from Østkanten, this very slope was their first experience of skiing.
But this slope will be familiar to them even before they put on their skis, because this place offers a whole host of activities. The opening hours make the place a favorite after-school play area on weekdays, and on weekends locals flock here to enjoy some skiing.

The Summit Bar atop the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Holbergsgate right by the castle really makes you feel like you're on top of...well maybe not the world but definitely Oslo. From the 21st floor you can see far beyond the Oslo Fjord, while below you have Oslo at your feet. The bar is created by the well-known architectural firm Snøhetta, so the interior aesthetics are also top notch.
With glass windows and panoramic views, sitting in the bar is an experience in itself. The subdued music, adult clientele and stylish surroundings make it easy to relax, enjoy the views and a delicious cocktail.
