"Bathroom shower was moldy. Very rocky beach, not walkable. No poolside beverage service. Front desk made us feel like we were bothering them when we checked in. I asked for a map of the property and was told there wasn’t one. The next day when we made dinner reservations with concierge she asked if we wanted a map of the property and a list of hotel activities. At checkout we were not asked about our stay or told they hoped we would come back in the future. "

"When we come to Aruba we usually stay Marriott. This time we decided to try Joia. It’s a new hotel. But that’s where the good things stopped. If you come to the beach too early no umbrellas or chairs are put out. Usually they’re starting to do that after 8-8:30 am. Also, if you didn’t come early enough the staff puts towels on the chairs claiming it’s for members only. So if that’s the case it should be advertised as such hotel. For members of some club only. Apparently if you paid $1,000.00 per night it’s not good enough for staff to accommodate you at the beach. The waitress service at the beach is the worst. They’re just doesn’t want to work. Staying most of the day under the trees. If by any miracle you see waiter passing by you better make sure he takes your order or you would have to wait forever for him to come again. Rooms are new and clean. However, it may take cleaning crew to clean your room whole day. Lots of people complained that rooms were cleaned way after 4 pm. Also, if you have reservations outside the hotel leave extra time for the taxi. It’s not easy to get taxi at this place. But more importantly, check your final bill carefully. We had quite a few charges that wasn’t ours. Truthfully, I wouldn’t go back there again. "

"Overall a great experience. This was our second trip to the Riu in Aruba, our first trip was 10 years ago to the adults only side of the hotel. We do prefer the family friendly side as the pool is larger and there are more restaurants and amenities to choose from. We did a quicker trip this time, and were there over the weekend and only 2 weekdays. The weekend there was minimal to no construction which was great, and on the weekdays the construction wasn't too disruptive. The only issue was they were peeling off the old paint and with the Aruban winds it was all flying off into the pool area. Again, it didn't bother us much but it definitely bothered some so just beware. We had no issues finding seats by the pool or the beach - just need to get up early and head out to save some before heading to breakfast. All the workers from the front desk to the restaurants to the pool/beach staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. Just as they were 10 years ago when we last visited! Hoping to be back again - and not in another decade!"

"Everything was nearby, was upgraded to Ocean view room. Stay was Superb!"

"Our room was moist, musty, and humid. We had to ask to have the mattress changed and the bed fixed because it squeaked terribly! The staff was kind. Food was good. We met wonderful people. My biggest suggestion is make sure your room is worth what you paid for it. I felt like the room quality was that of a 2-3 star hotel "

"This is a great resort to spend time away from home. The rooms are a bit dated and while tidy, the cleanliness could improve…however, we found the staff to be friendly. Location is a 9/10. It’s so close to the beach and the grocery store! It’s not a 10/10 only because it’s not on the beach itself. BUT, small inconvenience for such a great expanse of beach. "
