Great experience overall 10/10. Since we are Expedia Gold, hotel gave us an upgrade to Villa cottage with a bottle of Japanese sake for our dinner. Cottage is really nice with private outdoor Onsen and bath. They also have 10 different Onsen on property that you can use, most of those are private that notify by the sign outside if it is vacant or occupied. Traditional dinner was great, we can see all the detail of preparations and care. Staffs are friendly, polite and nice. We loved it.

10/10 Exceptional

We were contacted by the property via Expedia before the stay to book the free shuttle which met us on time outside the JR Yufuin entrance. The property is someways out on the hillside far from everything else. Reservation with the shuttle would be required to visit town. Check in was great and fast and we were upgraded as we were Expedia Gold members and also offered a very large bottle of wine for dinner as part of the membership. We were shown to our room by a very polite staff member whom also introduced us to the facilities. The property has private baths and public baths as well as a female-only bath. The private baths are for you or your family to use (everyone can use it) and you simply find one that is vacant, hang an occupied sign, lock the door and the bath is yours to use for the duration until you exit. The sizE of the baths vary but can fit up to 6 comfortably. All amenities provided for. Dinner was great, a lot of users commented that it was good but not excellent. I thought there was a noticable attempt to impress and satisfy. Overall 10/10 with maybe the exception of more frequent shuttle services. Will definitely come back and recommend.

Great private hot springs in the outdoor
Stayed two nights for solo relaxation trip. Having multiple private hot springs in the outdoor setting was the greatest value of the place (the main reason for me to choose this place). Staff were very friendly and made my stay very convenience. Facilities are a bit old-fashioned, but it is traditional Japanese ryokan. So no complaints about it. Food was good enough, but not superb.

The facilities is relatively old, surrounding area is nice, the temperature of the onsen water is too low,you can imagine how it feels like taking a bath outdoor with zero degree. There are only 6 private bath houses, which intends to serve all the guest in the hotel, long line up during service hour. The quality of the breakfast and dinner is impressive

The staff is very helpful and friendly. The private indoor onsen is a bit worn out and the water in private open air onsen is not hot enough.

pleasant boutique onsen just outside of Yufuin
The private Onsens were superb, especially the mineral pool (#1 Onsen). Room was large with private toilet and the hotel upgraded us to have our own bath tub. That was nice! Room was spacious and mostly clean (we found some dust and ladybugs in the room). Futons were comfortable and warm. Dinner and breakfast service was good but we’ve had better quality elsewhere. Room is a bit dated and need more modernizing.

Very nice Onsen hotel
Booked a room with breakfast and dinner from Hotels.com for my family of 4. Easily arranged pick-up shuttle from Yufuin station, meals time and return shuttle by email. Even got an upgrade from hotel with private bath which was very nice! Kids enjoyed the tatami while adults enjoyed the proper beds. Onsens were nice, we tried 3 of them! All good, but meals can be better!

10/10 Exceptional

This hotel had excellent onsen facilities. Among the 11 baths, 8 could be used privately. It was the first time my 4-year-old son went to onsen and I was worried that he would not like it. But since we had a private bath I didn't need to worry that my son would affect the others. And it turned out that my son liked the onsen experience very much. I spent quite a large sum of money to stay at the hotel. The room (Twin Room with Tatami Area with Shared Bathroom) was very large. The package included breakfast and dinner. I think the price is reasonable. During my stay, there was some problem with the toilet and we were suggested not to use it. I originally was not very happy about it. However, when we checked out, the manager offered me a compensation in cash. The amount was reasonable but was generous enough to make sure that I was happy with it. I think the service was excellent. Besides, there was a lady would could speak Chinese (Mandarin). For some reason they charged ~¥1920 for my 4-year-old son (we had 3 persons altogether), even though the Expedia website said that children under 5 were considered as infants. The extra charge was ok to me.

Ryokan which has 7 open air private Onsen
This Onsen ryokan located some distant away from the main shopping belt, Kinrinko lake & JR Station. It lose out to its competition in term of location. But it make it back with services, scenary, food and its onsen/hot springs. I been to Japan & Yufuin many times, this is the ryokan probably has the most private Onsen. It has 2 indoor private Onsen, 1 huge public indoor public Onsen & 7 other open air private Onsen. But during the winter when outside temperature could go down to low single digit degree Celsius, it could be a struggle to walk from the main building to the private open air onsen, which is about 100-150m away. The food is of good quality and generous as it include the local famous Bungo Beef & Salt Bake Sea Bream. Further the front desk gave me 1000yen discount voucher if I stay with them within next 24 months. Strongly recommend this ryokan.
