Downtown Vancouver balances historic charm with modern riverfront energy. The Fort Vancouver National Historic Site anchors the district with its 19th-century buildings and trading post heritage. Waterfront Park offers stunning Columbia River views along manicured promenades. Craft breweries occupy converted warehouses while the vintage Kiggins Theatre marquee glows against brick facades. Farm-to-table restaurants serve Pacific Northwest cuisine featuring local salmon and craft beer pairings. Most attractions sit within walking distance, connected by tree-lined streets with period lampposts. Boutique hotels and historic inns provide comfortable accommodations with river views for travelers seeking a blend of history and waterfront relaxation.

Vancouver Waterfront
Vancouver's Waterfront promenade delivers Instagram-worthy views of Mount Hood and the Columbia River with every step. Wine lovers can hop between tasting rooms like Brian Carter Cellars and Maryhill Winery for sips with spectacular scenery. The Grant Street Pier juts dramatically over the water, creating the perfect backdrop for your "look at me living my best life" photos. Hungry travelers can choose from waterfront restaurants serving up fresh Pacific Northwest cuisine with river views. Hotels and upscale condos line the water's edge, offering luxe digs for overnight stays. Everything's connected by wide, pedestrian-friendly paths that make exploring this scenic spot a total breeze.

Salmon Creek
Salmon Creek offers a suburban retreat with outdoor adventures just minutes from Vancouver. The neighborhood's sprawling park and winding trails through Douglas fir groves invite morning joggers and afternoon wanderers alike. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot native birds at peaceful Klineline Pond while golf lovers practice their swing at Westside Golf Range. Mid-range chain hotels provide comfortable bases with standard amenities like pools and free breakfast. Local dining leans toward familiar chains and family-friendly spots with Pacific Northwest seafood options. A rental car is essential for exploring this quiet residential area where shopping centers and evergreen-lined streets create a genuine forest-suburb atmosphere.

Hazel Dell
Hazel Dell serves up a slice of authentic Pacific Northwest suburban life without the tourist crowds. This welcoming neighborhood offers a taste of local living with its family-friendly parks and casual dining spots. You'll find strip malls lined with taquerias, chain restaurants, and small ethnic markets that give a peek into everyday American life. The area sits conveniently along Interstate 5, making exploration easy. Budget-friendly motels and extended-stay hotels make this a smart base for cost-conscious travelers. Hop on C-TRAN buses to downtown Vancouver or Portland's attractions when you're ready to venture out. While not walkable everywhere, the quiet residential streets with mature Douglas firs provide peaceful spaces to stretch your legs.

Meander along the Columbia River waterfront where public art installations punctuate views that make even locals pause mid-stride. Fort Vancouver National Historic Site transports visitors to the fur-trading era with surprising authenticity – the blacksmith shop alone is worth the visit. The Pearson Air Museum celebrates aviation pioneers who landed here when flying was still considered slightly mad. Clark County Historical Museum occupies a Carnegie Library building where exhibits reveal stories far more colorful than textbooks suggest. Vancouver Farmers Market transforms downtown weekends with local produce and artisans. Catch live music at local venues where performers often test material before Portland's bigger stages. Don't miss sunset from Who Song & Larry's patio – the river view comes with excellent margaritas.

"Limpio cuarto Buena atención del personal"
Hotel Indigo Vancouver Dwtn – Portland Area by IHG
"The bed was very comfortable the room was light and airy. The heating/air-conditioning worked well. My biggest complaint, as a woman traveler, is that there was no magnifying mirror for me to put on my makeup. I left a message with the front desk and explained to them that while seemingly minor, that omission could in fact make a difference between me coming back to the hotel, or not. I thought that it was something that was simple but important for all women travelers. Otherwise the hotel was lovely. There was a lot of noise downtown Vancouver as it was Friday and Saturday nights, but the hotel did supply earplugs and a white noise machine."

"Great breakfast! Egg white and veggie omelets, bacon, and seasoned potatoes."
Sonesta ES Suites Portland Vancouver 41st Street
"The property is very well maintained. Everything you need including a good breakfast every morning! Staff, as always, super nice and helpful. I've stayed here a lot and always rebook when in Vancouver!"
Studio 6 Suites Vancouver, Wa - Waterfront
"I stopped here just for a convenient overnight during a road trip. The price was right. I wish it had been a quieter place to sleep — I could hear a lot of shouting from pedestrians in the neighborhood. But t's in the middle of a busy downtown zone, so that probably can't be helped. (The air conditioner worked well and muffled some of that noise.) I only had a choice of one or two parking spaces, which seemed very exposed to the busy pedestrian traffic, so I made sure to leave nothing in my car — but again, it's a motel in a busy downtown zone, so that's to be expected. My room was comfortable, clean, and sufficient for a one-night stay. I'm not sure how to rate the helpfulness of the staff, as I only saw one staff member during my stay — at the front desk — but he was efficient and friendly. What I like best about this place is its proximity to a movie theater, an excellent grocery store (New Seasons), and some impressive coffee shops and bakeries, all within a few blocks."

This budget-friendly approach allows visitors to explore a variety of attractions, including local shopping, dining options, family-friendly activities, quaint cafes, live music venues, and the warmth of its friendly residents. Engaging with Vancouver's vibrant entertainment scene, sports events, and historical ruins along the river provides great value for money while immersing oneself in the city's rich culture.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: For hotel deals in Vancouver, you may discover attractive offers by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com. Should your travel plans be spontaneous, you're more likely to see appealing rates in the Last-Minute Deals section, which may include promotions close to your travel date. Additionally, you could benefit from enabling alerts to be promptly informed of price drops, while the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities. This approach may help you secure great savings on hotels in Vancouver should rooms become available or prices decrease.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on various factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates may help you find better rates for your stay in a Vancouver hotel. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and can sometimes offer enhanced value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you uncover a more favourable rate.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually command higher prices, but thanks to Vancouver’s excellent public transport links, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations may offer a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
