Time to Refresh Room Surfaces?
Like most properties in NZ, the rooms need a bit of a refresh -- surfaces, paint, carpet. Price point is on the higher side (~NZ$375/night). With that said, the 2BR configuration with a kitchen was clutch for a small family. Common areas were very cool. Staff is friendly and helpful. Would stay again

Service and condition let’s this hotel down
Great location however what lets this hotel down is the consistently bad service at the front desk and the overall condition of the apartments. I’ve stayed at this hotel and the QT and other properties on various stays in Wellington and the Museum hotel is the worst. The combined front desk, cafe set up is a disaster with staff behind the counter just standing around unable to service guests when checking in or out (presumably staff rostered here are not cross-trained to serve both front desk and restaurant customers). Rooms furnishings are more style over substance with chairs uncomfortable to sit in, my bathroom was poorly designed with an unnecessarily large spa bath compromising both the shower and toilet areas, and kitchen facilities are almost worthless due to lack of a suitable area to eat any food you cook. I intended to cook during my stay but didn’t due to the poor facilities provided in my apartment. The apartments are large enough just poorly designed! Leaking fridge in the first room I was allocated is also indicative of a hotel with poor systems and processes as the room was not in a condition to be activated for allocation to guests.

A touch of class
This hotel is really different. Set like a modern art museum the rooms are well appointed and feels like a touch of luxury. Great location by Te Papa. A few annoying things, taxis drop you at the back door due to one way streets and that door is locked. Nothing like standing in windy wellington waiting for someone to answer the buzzer, then the phone when I gave up on the buzzer. That was a pain. Ask your taxi to loop around to main entrance. The a-la-carte breakfast was great but some days its the worlds smallest buffet for over $30. I was insulted, that was a rip off. Bar staff great, fabulous gin bar, rooms fantastic, but plan to have breakfast elsewhere on buffet days!

Great location and staff were excellent. A small criticism is the poor lighting in the room but this is not a major when you consider all the great things.

Lovely room although I would have appreciated an extra blanket as I preferred to leave the aircon off during the night. The lighting was quite dark and moody but it would have been good to have the option of bright lighting too. The shower handset didn't slot into the slide attachment so the rose/head tended to move around causing water to leak out under the door on to the bathroom floor. These were minor inconveniences though (just feedback). Staff happily changed my room so that my window didnt look directly into the gym! The location was excellent and the staff were lovely.

2 Night stay for 3
Beautifully, beautifully, clean room, 10/10 to the pleasant, friendly, cleaning staff. Not sure why we had to deal with the consierge as well as the people at the front desk. It was not immediately clear to me, who was who. Suddenly, upon check-out I was told the cost for 2 nights of valet parking was now $100 instead of the $80 it was at check-in and in the email communications I had received since I booked the accomodation, 2 months prior. Bad manners I thought. (but I paid it of course). One of the night duty staff were not able to sort an issue with the coffee machine in our room other than to say he thought it was faulty. He tried but couldn’t find a replacement. He apologised but still left the faulty machine in the room. At check-out I let the front desk staff know. The water from the shower flows out under the shower door even with the bath mat there, onto the tiles. One needs to take care not to slip over. It may be an idea to put in some type of stopper/grid cover in the bathroom basin to avoid anything falling down drain. (Just a suggestion).
