Characterful and Cosy

Lovely place to stay in a central position to the village. Very old with loads of character. Staff were very friendly and the food was really great. Our room was cosy, simply decorated and comfortable. Lacked a dressing table or somewhere to sit with a mirror and plug for hair drying/styling but we managed. Situated set back off the main street, next to a small Roman Catholic church for which the bells chime at 8am in Sundays but wasn’t intrusive. Lovely choice of breakfasts on the menu too.

Lovely village pub

A great village pub that also offers accommodation. Food was excellent and better quality you would find in most pubs, and even some restaurants. Breakfast was nice also. All the staff are supper friendly. Bedrooms are up a flight of stairs and of course, in a village pub, there is no lift, so if you have problems climbing stairs. maybe not here. If ever we are in this area, we would have no hesitation in booking The Black Lion.

The only thing was there was no where to fill kettle. I had to use shower head!!!!!!!!!!! And it was quite cold in the room

The staff definitely cared and the food was magnificent. Slap bang in the middle of Walsingham. Lovely ancient authentic hotel - watch your head.

Fabulous pub and food

Room perfect for visiting Walsingham. In a pub serving great food for both evening meal and breakfast. Room was a bit small and dated. It’s a period property so low ceilings etc but still could be better. Staff lovely.

The only drawback was that the hotel was classified as pet friendly but, although dogs are allowed in the bar and restaurant, they are not allowed in the bedrooms. Our dog had to spend the night in the car!

6/10 Good

Overall the room was comfortable and bed cosy. Room clean and had everythong you need for an overnight stay. Very limited parking so it was a bit of a fuss to park in the pay amd display up the road, but ended up ok in the end. Staff not overly friendly at breakfast when she was unable to serve a table of 4 at the same time as we had two separate bedrooms, so we ate at different times, which was a shame. The food was very nice, but wasnt really impressed with young lady serving.

Such a let down

Review for The Black Lion Hotel This was the third time my sister and I have visited The Black Lion Hotel, and once again we were warmly welcomed on arrival. We were met by two lovely gentlemen who could not do enough for us — they kindly took in our luggage (I am disabled) and carried it up to our room, settled us in, and made us feel so comfortable and looked after. Later, we came down for an incredible meal — your catering staff and chef are truly amazing, and the same two gentlemen were, once again, superb hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. However, sadly, for the first time ever staying with you, the morning did not live up to expectations. When we came down for breakfast, there was no warm greeting — just a brief, rather rough hello. We had to carry our own luggage to the car while the girls behind the bar seemed more interested in playing with their hair than helping guests. When we returned to the breakfast room, no one showed us to a table, so we seated ourselves. We were downstairs by 10:30am, yet it wasn’t until nearly 11am that someone finally approached us. I watched, and what I believe was the manager — a blonde lady — seemed more focused on doing her hair and checking her appearance than attending to guests. There were positives: a lovely girl with red hair who served us, and a young girl on work experience — both were delightful and did their best. Unfortunately, our breakfast was a disaster. The food was burnt, dry, and frankly inedible.

The hotel was lovely. Super decor, maintaining a sense of old country inn but with a fresh modern touch. Evening diner was surprisingly good and at a good price. Service was delightful. Room very confortable and quiet Very happy stay.

Lovely cosy and welcoming

Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast menu was very good and plentiful. It would be nice to have a few cereals on offer though. Bar was very welcoming as were the staff. Would definitely recommend this place to stay.

One night stay

Short one night stop - friendly staff and a warm welcome! Room was large with a comfortable bed, wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility problems as the stairs are quite narrow and steep and there were additional steps in our bedroom. Delicious breakfast!

Great pub-stay in a beautiful village

Overnight stay for Heritage Live gig at Sandringham. Little tricky to find in a beautiful, but tiny village, and with limited parking - paid-car park a short walk - but what a great find! Large room, huge comfortable bed, separate dressing room and spacious bathroom. Shower was good, but oddly positioned on bath I thought so had to angle a certain way. Best was a fab breakfast the next day, lots of choice on menu as long as like cooked stuff. Interesting village to explore, lots of history, perfectly located to visit beaches at Wells on the Sea and Holkam.

The Black Lion is a lovely characterful pub with comfortable rooms. We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were pleasant and the food was delicious. Walsingham is a great place to stay with lots to see and buses running through the village to Fakenham and Wells.
