I stressed a lot about where to stay in Chiang Mai and ultimately, the photos of this hotel and their breakfast made me book it.
Pros: Beautifully decorated, great breakfast, afternoon tea, free mini bar
Cons: Location, although in the old town, it's far from the main attractions, shower floods the bathroom
Another con that needs to be mentioned near the beginning of this review is that they appear to support elephant camps that do not treat the elephants ethically. In their tv menu, they advertise different activities you can book in the area and one big attraction in Thailand is to see elephants. However, instead of partnering with an ethical elephant sanctuary, where you DO NOT ride elephants, this hotel has partnered with an elephant camp that promotes elephant rides and circus tricks. These camps are known to treat elephants unethically, and it's just a shame that this hotel is advertising this sort of unethical tourism.
OK, with that said, the hotel is a beautiful property. We arrived early (11am) and could not check in until the afternoon so we left our bags and explored some temples in the area. Upon check in, we were greeted with welcome drinks and cold towels.
Our room was beautifully decorated and there were some delicious treats left for us to enjoy. Also, the mini bar is free and refilled daily! The bed is small, the shower flooded the bathroom every time.
The breakfast is very good, the afternoon tea is a nice touch.
Would not stay again.
