Very nice surprise!
The Base 1 Hotel was a wonderful 1-night stay, breaking up a rather long drive. I wasn't impressed by the front door or the area around the hotel, but it turned out to be perfect for me. Although the hotel is on a busy road, it's a little set back from the road, it was very quiet. My room was more than adequate and very comfortable. All the necessary items except a small refrigerator. The D/CH border was less than 200 meters away. Plenty of varied eateries around the area. McDonald's is a 15 minute walk. Also local markets, Lidl and Aldi were close by. While being an older building the hotel is well maintained. Everything in the room was in complete working order. I elected to buy the breakfast and it was more than adequate with hot food such as scrambled eggs, sausage and a couple of other items. Juice, milk, coffee and tea was offered to my liking. WiFi was very good! I would be very happy to stay at the Base 1 Hotel again!

Unfortunately I can not recommend this hotel. yes, it was cheap - but the room smelled so bad we had to sleep with the windows open to air it out. The entire night we heard the neighbor kids from the apt building next door partying. We also heard cars and people in the parking lot. Very noisy area. Could not wait to leave. The staff seemed nice - but if you want to actually be comfortable and sleep - find another hotel.

Günstig und grenznah mit Parkplatz
Das Hotel liegt in einem etwas schmucklosen und in die Jahre gekommenen Gebäudekomplex unmittelbar an der Grenze zur Schweiz (Riehen). Die besten Jahre des Hotels sind auch schon vorbei, der Lack ist etwas ab, was sich in abgelebten Möbeln und Teppichen manifestiert. Das Bad war aber tadellos und mich hochwertigen Grohe Elementen ausgestattet. Auch an der Sauberkeit war nichts zu bemängeln. Die Ausstattung des Zimmers ist eher überschaubar, so gibt es z.B. keinen Safe oder Kühlschrank - aber einen grossen Balkon (zumindest auf der Seite, die der Strasse abgewandt ist). Man kann das Auto gratis parkieren, wenn man denn einen Parkplatz findet. Die meisten reservierten Parkplätze gehören zu einem anderen Hotel und einem Restaurant. Der Check-In war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Da hat alles gepasst und man merkt, dass die Rezeptionistin Freude am Umgang mit den Gästen hat. Das Hotel wird von vielen Handwerkern, Monteuren und Handelsreisenden gebucht, da es zweckmässig und preiswert ist - und Parkplätze bietet. Entsprechend ist das Hotel ein Ort zum Übernachten, nicht unbedingt um den Tag zu verbringen. Aber wer will das schon...?

Nur zum Übernachten
Bei nicht besetzter Rezeption gibt es einen Code, um den Schlüssel aus der Box nehmen zu können und aufzuschließen. Das Hotel stellt sich zwar auf seinem Bild als Hochhaus dar, Hotelzimmer gibt es aber nur im 1. Stock des Seitengebäudes und einen Blick auf oder über die Grenze hat man keinesfalls! Leider gibt es keinen Aufzug, aber bei besetzter Rezeption wird das Gepäck getragen! Das Frühstück wurde Corona-bedingt am Tisch serviert, es wurde gebracht, was man wollte. Der Service könnte aber besser sein! Das Zimmer war nett und sauber mit Wasserkocher und Kaffee/Tee ausgestattet, aber ohne Kühlbox. Das Haus liegt 50 m vom Grenzübergang zur Schweiz entfernt, die Gegend ist etwas heruntergekommen. Zum Übernachten ist es aber ok!

Leider hat der Check-in, trotz der Reservations-Bestätigung nicht geklappt. Statt 2 Zimmer, wie bestätigt, war nur ein Zimmer verfügbar. Wir mussten nun in ein anderes Hotel umgebucht werden, dass in der Fussgängerzone gelegen war. Dort konnten wir nicht vor den Eingang fahren, um das Gepäck auszuladen; auch mussten wir in einer entfernten Tiefgarage, die gebührenpflichtig war, parken. Alles in allem war das ganze sehr entnervend, da wir nicht allzu viel Zeit für das Check-in aufwenden konnten und wollten. Somit entstanden uns viele Umstände und zusätzliche Kosten, alles in allem also kann ich keine positive Bewertung abgeben
