Welcome a bit coldish, but not rude. Room was very basic but clean. The television was hanging at an angle off the wall and irrespective did not work after about 29 mins of trying. There was no WIFI so I asked a member of staff if there was any and she said No and also “I don’t know anything about technology”. Breakfast did not start until 9am which meant we and others were waiting for it to open. When it did arrive my wife’s avocado and poached eggs arrived without the poached eggs ie avocado on toast. Full English was OK. Didn't bother complaining as we were tight for time. Downstairs had piles of furniture in areas - looked like they were getting ready for something - maybe a refurb ? In summary the staff were reasonably friendly but I would not stay here again.

Worth a visit - The Pelican Inn, Froxfield

The Pelican had only just re-opened under new management and Covid. It was clean and tidy, efforts were made to follow social distancing. There are plans to further invest in modernising the property but as we were the first guests after re-opening we were glad to be able to get away from home. The staff were all approachable and willing to share the local knowledge, food was good both at breakfast and the evening meals. Our room was comfortable and the weather for a change hot and sunny!

The property is ok but the room was not thoroughly cleaned every day and the tea and coffee was only replenished when asked. The bin in the bedroom was emptied but not the toilet bin on the first night. The staff were friendly and the service in the restaurant was excellent. Parking was good. The pub is a 10 min drive from Marlborough.

    Overall disappointed

Stayed in room 1. Still awake at 1am the road traffic was loud and clear from my room, the lights from the cars was bright so much from my relaxing night away contemplating driving home.

The radiator in the room was not working and the bathroom didnt have one, so it was freezing. We were given a small electric heater and told someone would come back to look at the radiator and they never did. The shower in the bathroom was very hard to control the temperature, one second cold one second hot.

Was ok, but they didn't care.

Would have been fine, but... Upon arrival was greated with a smile and then to be informed that the owners had sold the hotel and because of the change of ownership that night, they would not be serving breakfast in the morning. I booked bed and breakfast in advance. I never received any notification of the change of cooking, and no apology or alternative offer was made. The room was fine and clean. Bed was adequate. But I wouldn't stay again due to the lack of communication and care.
