4/10 Fair

The room was excellent and the food very good. I have stayed here before. However, the was a serious incident with a drunken and violent man roaming the corridor, shouting, threatening and trashing a room. This went on for 5 hours! It turned out that there were no staff at the inn. Completely unacceptable.

6/10 Good

Positives: clean, friendly staff, nice decor, on-site parking, cosy building. The room was a good size. Negatives: the shower glass screen did not have a rubber strip which made the water spill onto the bathroom floor and the bathroom fan does not extract the moisture from the air. We were in room 3 backing onto the river behind the building this looks Pleasant when looking out the window go but the noise made it difficult to sleep. The window even when shut at, allowed a constant flow of air in the room which made it very cold once the heating has stopped. In addition the bed was not very comfortable and the pillow was too big for me. The location was very remote and the roads to and from it where difficult to navigate. We were told to enter and exit out of hours via an open fire escape, which i am sure is not legal or safe. Breakfast was a challenge. I asked for brown bread and a coffee and got white bread and a tea. This was corrected but gives an indication of the slackness. Overall, not a bad stay but we wouldnt stay here again, even though the staff were friendly and nice.

10/10 Exceptional

Wife and I stayed here for a few nights (after a few nights in London) before the Burnley v New Castle match. Lovely property surrounded by beautiful hills and quaint village. Very relaxing and quiet. Easy walking distance to hiking trails. The staff was simply wonderful - laid back, very friendly and attentive to every need. The bar and restaurant downstairs were great. Awesome to warm up by the fire with a pint in hand after a day of hiking. Wonderful food. Quaint little seating area outside under cover with heaters and blankets for night cap. We will definitely be returning. Highlight of our trip to the U.K. - including London.
