A 'restaurant with rooms' but no restaurant!
This hotel/restaurant is in the midst of new owners taking over. Communication was dreadful they have not set up their email system and phone system resulting in utter chaos! We booked this restaurant with rooms for a family gathering, and ended up with no breakfast (despite being charged for it) going elsewhere for dinner. There is no mention on their website that there was no restaurant service available. Why are they allowing guests to book and pay in advance for a hotel which is not fully functioning. The room was ok but traffic noise was bad, earplugs essential! Bathroom had a bath with shower over, but no shower curtain and no bath tap that worked. There was a cafetiere in the room, but no coffee to go with it. All in all very poor. Would recommend that the hotel closes until the new owners have refurbished and got the kitchen open again.

Comfortable and clean with very friendly and helpful staff. I’m sure once the planned alterations are complete and all normal facilities are reinstated, it’ll be a super option. I’d certainly come again.

Don't stay here.
This hotel was difficult to find. It is in a state of flux and the grounds are a real mess. There was no one working on reception the day I arrived with entrance to the hotel via an unlocked side door. The room key was supposed to be in the door but when I arrived someone had taken my room. I dialled the help number and left a message on an answer phone which had no reply. Therefore, I ended up taking someone else's room as I was staying with 2 colleagues. The side door remained unlocked all night - very poor security. Although the room I took was made up, and I met the guest that should have had it the following morning, there were used towels hanging up in the bathroom. Overall this hotel is a shambles. The only saving grace was the breakfast, although tea cup with no saucer and milk served from a teapot was a bit strange.

Great Place under some change
Felt a little strange turning up to a hotel that was completely empty without anyone around but instructions were clear in an email. Found out the restaurant was closed due to change of ownership. Breakfast was great with great service. Not a breakfast person but had it both days. Location near the canal was great and as a runner there are some great paths to explore (especially as the weather was good). Think I’ll book again.

Disappointing experience
Looked good on the website but the reality was quite different. A “restaurant with rooms” without a restaurant! Felt more like a youth hostel than a hotel. The one staff member we saw was efficient enough but we did appear to be the only guests. Room and breakfast ok but bed very uncomfortable. Grounds rather shabby which is a shame given the location by the river. Poor value for money at £100 per night.

Ok stay
Would have been good to have had air conditioning as the weather was unusually hot - otherwise was a pleasant experience

This was an over night stay for my daughter and I for a near by college day. Very convenient for the college and shopping in the Gloucester town. Lovely pub 6 mins walking away along a busy road. The room was an awkward shape with a small bathroom for a luxury double. Bath was difficult to get in and out being very high up and shower in side the bath was cold. Very noisy floorboards above the room you can hear guess walking around.

Nice place for people with patience.
I so wanted to like this property. It’s associated with the restoration of a canal linking Hereford with Gloucester and quite close to the restored docks area via a nice walk. The room was fine with a nice view of the river Severn. The gentleman that checked us in was initially entertaining and I think in charge of th canal restoration. We had decided to eat in their restaurant. I was asked when i booked whether we wanted the tasting menu or ala carte which I thought a little odd since we had no way of knowing the menu. Fortunately we chose a’la carte. Then it became Fawlty Tower ish, we tried to order a bottle of red wine from the list. The very pleasant waitress couldn’t find the first choice or the second. After about 30 minutes i was about to grab a bottle from the rack because the waitress was still looking for the wine apparently. We finally asked for the house Cotes de Rhône which turned out to be delicious. The food was at best OK and I think a little overly ambitious for a pub. People sitting near us were complaining and unfortunately we had ordered the dish they were complaining about. The staff were certainly trying their best. The next morning breakfast took forever but was tasty. Again the same couple from the previous evening were having issues, rightfully so in my opinion. Upon checkout my partner had gone to get our bags while I tried to settle the bill, but was completely ignored by the gentleman who checked us in till my partner came down.
