Pleasant Surprise
I look for budget hotels, and accordingly I don’t have very high standards or expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised by RM. Admittedly the room I was in was a little dark, and the rug and furniture had seen better days. However, it was comfortable, clean, secure, and everything worked as intended, including the safe. The location cannot be beat if you want to be close to major historical sites and don’t want to pay an arm and a leg. A word of caution, this is one of Manila’s red light districts, and any unaccompanied obviously foreign man will be endlessly approached to buy silver coins, fake designer goods, and ED pills in various dosages. The ladies on the street will also offer their services. So for these reasons I wouldn’t recommend this as a family vacation spot, though certainly were some families were there. However, I also did not feel unsafe at any time. It’s all just business to the locals. I saved the best for last: Not unlike so many other spots in PH, the staff here is genuinely friendly and welcoming. The cleaning staff are like ninjas. More then once I hung the room cleaning side and stepped out for a bit and came back to find the room clean only an hour later. Definitely will return at some point.
