I'd read some decent reviews of the Citrus property in Alleppey, and went with it over another resort because the pictures of the pool and reviews looked appealing -- and they had a bar. The resort has so much potential, but it was disappointing on many levels. The pool was "under maintenance" -- by which the staff meant that several tiles are/were coming lose and we had to be careful. They had drained some of the water out to expose one section of broken tiles. The pool area needed a lot of work -- deck chairs were old and dirty, pool-side towels were damp. The rooms were generally ok. They have really nice antique furniture which isn't maintained. We had no hand towels and toilet paper in our rooms, but they were provided as soon as we requested them. Bed covers had some stray stains on them. Overall, Citrus is alright if you're looking to just spend one night in a secluded, quiet spot. Staff are reasonably pleasant and friendly, although a little disorganized -- took me 3 calls to confirm a taxi booking to Cochin airport, and an equal number of visits to get the internet password. After all that, the internet was down for the night. The food was decent with a wide selection and well-prepared, no complaints there. I'd love to think this place has seen better days, and I'm sure it can see better days with some maintenance and upkeep. It's a shame because the location, snuggled between the backwaters and paddy fields, is beautiful.
