Such a charming place in the heart of Salvador. It”s all about detais: from the way they display the soap, to the Their secret must be their staff.

Gorgeous Hotel in the Heart of the Old City
Our suite had a private terrace with a table and chairs as well as a hammock. VERY quiet. The restaurant is excellent and the free breakfast is five stars! Very friendly, helpful staff. We would recommend the hotel to the most discerning clientele. The location is on a pedestrian-only street with gorgeous colonial era buildings. Spectacular!

Very good
Tea and coffee facilities in the room would be nice as this is standard in most hotels that cost a lot less. The restaurants around the area are average and nothing special but are expensive for what you are getting.

I stayed in two boutique properties on my recent trip to Salvador. The other (Casa do Amarelindo) was a tad friendlier, more professional, and had a few more creature comforts. BUT for history, tradition, elegance, and style, nothing can touch Hotel Villa Bahia. The rooms don't have numbers; they have names (and years) associated with Portuguese voyages of discovery. I stayed in Gana (i.e. "Ghana"). Room was large and comfortable, filled with beautiful antique (or faux antique) furnishings. High ceilings. Appreciated the small bath. The only real flaw was that the shower had substandard water pressure. Breakfast was good. Was happy to have dinner one night in the high-end restaurant. Very good, though portions were small. The building is awesome and fun to explore. The small back pool patio; the quaint roofdeck. Location couldn't be better. On one of the main pedestrian streets, just steps away from the Church of San Francisco -- Salvador's greatest site. It was raining when I visited the Church. I barely got wet, the entrance was so close to the hotel. Overall, not only nice but memorable.

The location in the heart of the historic district combined with the colonial decor made for a memorable experience. We stayed in Goa which was spacious and comfortable and comes highly recommended. Initially we were a little worried that it would be noisy give the location facing the street/square; however, by night it was surprisingly quiet. Probably the best thing about this was the hotel staff. Leo and Santiago went out of their way to assist us in every way possible. Leo even participated in a capoeira class with us which was definitely a highlight of the 4 days we spent in Salvador!

Hotel Villa Bahia is beautiful! It is an old mansion that's been renovated and turned into a hotel. We stayed in the "Cochin" room (all the rooms have names instead of numbers and come with old fashioned keys/locks that are most likely original). The room is basically a duplex suite. On the first floor, you walk into the sitting room with a tv, then there's the bedroom with an open air bathroom. Up the stairs on the second level, there is a private sundeck with a little bit of a view of the city's historical district. The hotel is very clean, staff is multilingual and very friendly and helpful. One of the biggest bonuses of this hotel is its restaurant on the ground floor. One of the reviews I read mentioned that if you weren't staying here to definitely check out the restaurant. They were not wrong. Besides the delicious and healthy breakfast, the meal we had at dinner was one of our favorites of the entire 10-day/4-city Brazil trip.

No coração do pelourinho!
