    fabulous stop-over

We stopped at the hotel as an overnight stay when travelling from Isle of Skye to Hertfordshire. I called en-route as I was worried about arriving late, and the manager was lovely and calming. We arrived and had a very warm welcome. The room was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The dinner menu was fabulous, and meant we didn't need to leave the hotel which is just what weary travellers needed.

3 Night Triple Room stay August 2021

Although some of the décor may look a little dated, the room was very big and spacious, the beds and pillows were very clean and comfortable too. We were in a corner room with 2 windows, it felt very light and airy. The hotel is also away from any busy traffic so there was no road noise, and everyone slept well. All the staff we encountered were exceptionally pleasant and more than happy to help with any request. At breakfast everything was laid out buffet style to help yourself. There was everything we could have wanted for breakfast, cereals, continental and cooked. They only had scrambled egg on the buffet, but this was pointed out by staff who also offered to cook alternatives if we wished. The hotel doesn't have its own car park, the road outside had parking restrictions for 1hr 8:30-6:30 Mon-Sat. The hotel gave us a disk for 1 hour parking and directed us to a place nearby we could park for free if we needed longer. We were out most of the day, and even when returning late at night never found difficulty parking close to the hotel. Our room seemed to be out of Wifi range, but signal works perfectly well in the bar and dining areas. Very pleasant stay, would happily stay again.

Reasonable price and great breakfast. Room was quite basic but comfy bed. Main complaint was a mouldy smell on entering the room.

    Worst ever

Luckily it was only one night stay on our way to Scotland. The top floor room was so overheated that we literally couldn't breathe. Eventually had to cover beds with wet towels to try and fall asleep. The carpet floor in the room was so greasy and sticky so that we kept our shoes on. The ground floor pub with pretty much suspicious individuals standing around all the time made me think that no valuables to be left in the car overnight. And the lady at the reception with a cocktail in her hand was fun to see. Never again.

    Excellent stay

Stay was very good. Janet (Duty Manager) wS very pleasant and helpful. Room was very clean with en suite, tv and ironing facilities. Tea and coffee items were in a plastic bag. Whole Hotel and staff were covid compliant. Breakfast was included with evening meals available weekday evenings. Meals were very well presented and alcohol was also available. Local shoping centre was litterally 5 to 10 minutes walk or less if you drive. Car parking there was reasonably priced. Area was resedential and generally quiet. Only minor issue was all parking was on street; free from 6 pm to 0830 am. At all other times parking limited to 1 hr although Hotel gives you a disk to display. I was staying for work purposes and found this Hotel ideal for my needs.

Avoid, until total refurbishment & new photos

I base my review on the fact I stay in over 60 properties a year in UK & Europe. The only thing positive is the staff. The owners have been greedy taken the money but not reinvested and neglected the building for far too long. Toilets & showers have been replaced but carpets are dirty, tatty, torn, wooden battens in rooms coming off, dirty plug points [photos available] the list goes on the whole place needs closing down and a total refurbishment to take place IF it is to call itself a hotel AND charge such high rates. Room sheets are spotless but rooms [I tried 2] are soleless with no consideration for comfort. Neither had a chair! Breakfast is the worst ever. Powdered egg used for scrambled egg and tinned tomatoes [a first in the UK] and just one slice of sliced toast with no offer or availability for more toast or tea! I did ask for yoghurt for my cereal and although none offered I was given some. Thank you!
