Tourist trap!!! Be careful!!!!
This hotel is a tourist trap!!! It's located 80km far away from the place it's advertised on the website. It's not located inside the park!!! We had to drive 160km extra to get into Sossousvlei and when we cancel the second night because of the distance, the hotel didn't refund it. In addition, we booked a triple room and at arrival they wanted to sell us and additional room pretending they didn't have single rooms. Honestly, too many tricks for a day. I don't recommend this place at all. Far away from the park and basic facilities. Never again!

an unexpected oasis
we had an unexpectedly fantastic stay at the Hammerstein Lodge. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grounds are lovely, our room was comfortable, and the property is teeming with wildlife (from the resident Sprongbocks, leopard, Bobcats, and cheetahs, to the many others that pass through on a daily basis). The location is great-- though it isn't actually in Sesriem, it's about 40 min south on the c19. Still very easy access to Sossusvlei, and once you're there the location will feel just right. I highly recommend a stopover here.

Very nice accommodation but out of the way
Pleasant surroundings. Nice accommodation and good food. Attentive staff. Some wild animals to entertain you. Out of the way if going to Soussisvlei from Swakopmund by 60 k. Not a problem if not returning to the lodge for the night or if traveling toward Sossusvlei and not returning to the lodge. Lots of traveling tour caravans bringing in 15-20 guests knowing each other a night. Singles or couples traveling are on the outside.

Hammerstein Lodge great stop
Although an hours drive from Sesriem Gate we had a wonderful 5 nights here. The self contained rooms were comfortable with table chairs 2 hot plates and pots pans and crockery and cutlery. Microwave not in rooms but available. Fridge in room. The breakfast buffet was extensive with endless coffee. The evening buffet included only local meats produced on the farm. So beef, lamb kudu oryx were all available. All staff we're exceedingly friendly and most helpful. Three highlights specific to the lodge were a magnificent big cat enclosure where one can walk with cheetahs and caracals, a game drive in which giraffe zebra wart hogs red hartebeest etc can be seen and thirdly night time entertainment by the enthusiastic staff who enjoyed singing and dancing. The overall setting was splendid with large swimming pool and loungers. Wifi in comfortable lounge with open fires for the cool August desert evenings following the hot days. No mosquitoes in August so a fantastic time to visit.
