I have to agree with previous reviews. Beware! This former student hostel is NOT ready for travellers. If this was their 'superior' double room I hate to think what a standard room would be like. As it was, the only way a double bed could be fitted in this pokey space was to push it up against a wall. Not to so much as a chair to sit on, much less a tv, and the bathroom is down the corridor. So far as I could discover, there was nowhere to make a drink anywhere on the floor. If you don't want to pay Canberra's exhorbitant accommodation costs, you would do better to stay across the border in Sutton or Queanbeyan.

The hotel section is on the top 3 floors (of nine). My room was very clean and had a vanity basin, the bed was comfy, good WiFi, ample free parking and the location is excellent. The room had no TV but apart from that I felt it was very good value and the shared bathrooms were also very clean.

I will admit that I did book this at the last minute for my father, who needs a walker or a wheelchair to get around. I was horrified by what I found. When they are talking about it being basic accommodation, they are not kidding. The room had a bed, a desk and a cupboard. There was no TV, no radio, no clock, and the bedside light didn’t work. We were also not told that a kitchen existed. While the manager did his best to assist, he was busy supervising a renovation, and so the light globe for the bedside lamp was not replaced. He did assist by finding a wedge for the bathroom door, allowing it to stay open while my Dad walked through to the toilet or shower. This building is barely adequate for students, many of whom come from overseas- and this is their introduction to Australian life, and to ANU. I will admit that it is fulfilling a useful role at present given the incredibly tight rental market. This rundown, poorly designed building is, however, not remotely suitable for tourists. Pay the extra, and go elsewhere. Even after the renovations are finished, this place will still be substandard. The ANU should be ashamed of itself, but in my experience they are incapable of it.

Stayed here for convenience and therefore cost, but if they are trying to attract a tourist market they will need to improve the room offering. No TV, no bar fridge in the room, and looking tired.
