Perfect stay at Moana Surfrider
We loved the history and the vibe of staying at this classic hotel. Loved sitting at the beach bar enjoying live music watching the sunset over Waikiki. The room was spacious the bed heavenly and the view was perfect.

Worst Valet experience ever, not worth the $$$
First off, I can't believe how rude, unpleasant, and impatient the valet were. They absolutely BOMBED our stay. I called ahead to confirm that we could load and unload our car without having to valet and the concierge ASSURED me it wouldn't be a problem, I should've called the valet, because they had a HUGE issue with it for the 4 nights we were there. This is THE MOST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT ON A STAY, and easily the least hospitable service I have ever experienced, top to bottom, it being our anniversary just made matters all the worse. From the valets (multiple older gentleman that didn't want to take the car but needed the keys to my car if we were loading), the bellman wasn't offered or available for our bags loading and unloading, to the concierge who explained that she only speaks a little bit of English and couldn't help with a safety pin or a recommendation, to our room which was cleaned once! IN FOUR DAYS. The service in the restaurant and the bar was non existent, call is Hawaii time all you want but when the musician notices you havent been helped in a while its a problem. We had high expectations staying here, we are Marriot members and have stayed in Westins all over the world, and when visiting Oahu before we earmarked this spot when we could afford it, and man oh man, it was just DISAPPOINTING. The consistent memories I have of this place is my son offering a welcoming or parting "Aloha" and not even being greeted with a smile or a hello. STAY AWAY!

The First Lady of Waikiki
The Moana is the oldest hotel on Waikiki, so grand and stately, classic. Upgraded staying in the Surfrider Tower was more modern with a gorgeous view of Diamond Head. However, the closet is oddly located in the bathroom. My main complaint is that there is a $42 daily resort fee that is also taxed 17%, coming to nearly $50 more a day. These were amenities that I really didn't use. While they're on business, it coincided with a birthday and a wedding anniversary and the staff were gracious in their acknowledgement of both. Beautiful hotel.

It was cozy but better options in Waikiki
The hotel is historic which made it cozy. The only disappointing part was that what is advertised as ocean view (Banyan) is actually just a window in the room (which is really small) and the window opens only 2 inches.

Loved the porches and whole back area with Banyan tree, rocking chairs pool and beach area. Nighttime relaxing there was amazing.

Reserved an ocean view room through Expedia, paying a higher rate for the advertised ocean view. Unfortunately, the view was the rooftop of the Banyan building, if you stood up balcony, there was a sliver of ocean view and this was from the 10th floor. I spoke to the front desk, I can understand if I had paid for a partial ocean view room but to pay the higher rate for a view of a rooftop should be considered false advertising. Dining options are very limited. PRO: Staff is attentive and helpful, location is good, direct access to beach and walking distance to many of the shops on Kalakua. The Moana used to be a historic and iconic hotel in Waikiki but for the price, it was disappointing.
