The hotel is a historical landmark, so it’s very outdated. They claim that given the landmark status, they can’t do construction, which is inaccurate because it’s been updated at some point since it’s inception, but the furnishing is decades old and feels very dingy. We paid $1,000 a night for our suite and the room was very disappointing, see photos. Carpet in the bathroom?? Any hotel room that has shower curtains vs glass door says a lot about the modernness and luxury of the hotel…and they call themselves the Luxury Collection. The furniture has to be from the 80s. The couch was so flattened and dingy, we requested sheets to put over it because I did not want to sit directly on it. Furthermore, the front desk staff repeatedly made us feel like every question or ask was an inconvenience eg. towel service at the pool, food/
bev service at the pool, late check out options, moving to a different room with a King bed instead of 2 doubles, which we had to stay in because they couldn’t clean the king room that night. Despite the king bed suite being vacant, they didn’t give us the room until 5pm the next day. Horrible service for a hotel where we spent $1,000 a night. I’ve Been coming to Waikiki for over 15 years and I will never again choose the Royal Hawaiian. It’s a FANTASTIC location. Also, the gym is a disgrace and the pool gets NO SUN and is TINY. You can go to the family pool at the Sheraton, but that is a chaotic scene and not ideal if you’re not traveling with children
