An excellent stay
Booked the suite for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed but actually pleasantly surprised. From the valet parking service to the lightning fast check-in; the chocolate hour at the lobby to the excellent dinner at the restaurant. The classy accommodation and amenities, the facilities such as the swimming pool, sauna, and gym. All in all, I can't fault the place, the team, nor the quality. During check-in, the reception team casually asked what brought us to town and I mentioned that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Next thing we know, the restaurant team bringing complementary desserts with 'Happy anniversary' written in chocolate to finish off our excellent dinner that night. Truly thoughtful and completely took us by surprise. Thank you Team! If there is ONE thing that I would mention which may be considered 'against' staying at the Movenpick then it would be it's rather 'far' from the CBD; and while the almost 1.5Km walk to Lambton Quay is certainly doable, factor in the walk back, walking or heading to certain places within the CBD, and carrying shopping back and some people may find the distance a bit too much for their liking. A car should remedy this nicely though. Certainly the place to stay whenever we're in town again

Poor service, small but pretty rooms. Mediocre.
Meh. Rooms are pretty and tidy but quite small. Location is not great, nothing is closeby. Service is quite poor. Restaurant is not bad. Cannot recommend this hotel. No breakfast service from 9:20am on one day of my stay due to a conference, no warnings in advance, and no other options given. Also I told a member of staff about an issue with the lights in the rooms, whereby you can only turn on bathroom lights by first turning on main overhead room light (which will wake up your partner at night). The guy just frowned and advised that his boss was very busy, so he didn't want to bother him with such trivial issues at this time. He wished me luck in figuring it out. Then the hotel never came back to me. At check-out they asked whether I enjoyed my stay, but apparently had no interest in feedback when I calmly told them that I did not particularly enjoy it. They did not ask the reasons, or wish to discuss it further at all.

I loved the location and the amenities. I felt like I was treated great by the front desk and one of the new employees at the restaurant was bubbly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The dirty plates were always left on the table too long after eating. I think that could have been done quicker. Appreciate that we were late for breakfast and they gave us the a quick 10 minutes to eat by letting us know the time. It was difficult to get soft running overeasy eggs. He made them 3 times and were over medium/hard.
