It was a nice room and the location of the hotel was close to the main attractions and shops. The restaurant in the hotel was under staffed. There was only one waitress working and one person behind the bar.

Nice stay for work
Good stay near capital hill, building is a bit older but they have done a great job in updating the rooms and decor. The windows also open in the room which is a bonus! Rooms are spacious so allowing for working from the room to be easier and front office was very accommodating with printing.

Nice enough, but needs improvement
My stay at the Rydges Canberra was reasonably comfortable, but the rooms are much more basic than the overall "look and feel" of the hotel would suggest. The lobby is contemporary chic, but the rooms are more dorm-like, and although they are clean and modern, they are quite basic. What really upset me about the hotel, however, was the desk clerk lying to me about late check-out. I requested a 12 noon checkout, but after making a show of clicking on the keyboard for 30 seconds, the clerk told me that this was impossible because the hotel was fully booked. I found this hard to believe, given that the lobby was mostly empty, so of course I went up to my room and checked the hotel's own website for availability the next day. Sure enough, in every category of room there were half a dozen or more available to book. I understand that there's a labor shortage, and I understand that late checkouts are disruptive, and I would have accepted a simple "no, I'm sorry, but we've been told that we can't allow late checkouts." But to make a show of looking things up and then to lie to me -- and the clerk must have been instructed by management to do this -- is simply disrespectful.
