Entertainment system/TV is old, extremely disappointing, the quality of the tv is unexpectedly bad! Some quality issues with room, door handles broken in bathroom.

Rydges Canberra
It was a nice place to stay. Very friendly staff on arrival. Room was clean and tidy. We didn’t get to use the pool and the gym but will try it out next time if we come back to Canberra.

Not 4.5 Stars, Rooms Very Disappointing
Great location and the common areas are lovely. The change in quality between the common areas and the hall is VERY jarring. Feels like a 3-star motel. The bathroom has clearly been upgraded but the two sinks, in addition to the random and dated third sink just outside the bathroom is confusing. The lighting is grim, the furniture feels cheap and dated and the hotel "art" is so dated and cliche bad I felt like I was in a budget Ibis. The carpet looks newish but my room has a very large crusty white stain on the floor which was upsetting to think about. The air conditioning is old and slow and not reverse cycle. Checking in was fine but I tried calling for more towels and reception, concierge and housekeeping all rang out multiple times. I called the duty officer's mobile which is provided in the room, assuming it was maybe to be used in place of the in-room phone. The line was answered by someone who was clearly frustrated and very blunt in response to my polite request and snapped at me when I asked for clarification about what phone number to use. I also walked down to the bar one evening to see if it was open and appropriate to meet a friend and was sneered at by the reception staff for doing so, which felt very strange. It's a functional hotel but definitely wouldn't recommend it if you were looking for ambience - it's definitely not 4.5 stars. I give some grace in light of COVID but you can definitely get much nicer for less in Canberra.

10/10 Exceptional

Beautifully presented. We stayed in the executive king room which was spacious with a real luxury feel. The central lounge and bar area was perfect for a cosy rest by the fire and sipping a cocktail. We would have had dinner there, but we had other plans and the menu was a little on the pricey side. Manuka is only a couple of blocks away with some great dining options. Staff were very welcoming and parking was a breeze. Plush, cosy and inviting. Definitely worth staying out of the cbd for!
