Whistler Hotels

The village of Whistler got the Winter Olympics stamp of approval back in 2010 – not that it needed it. The city has long been Canada’s premier winter sports destination, with the largest ski hub in North America. Set against the haunting backdrop of the snowcapped Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, visitors can take to the slopes or kick back and enjoy the village’s après-ski styled delights. During the warmer months hikes and mountain biking are the thing, while R&R, leisure, and pleasure top the priority list all year round.

Things to see

With over 8000 acres of snow-powdered slopes, green alpine forests, glittering glaciers, and sprawling trails, Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort draws in skiers and snowboarders of every level. For a panoramic view of the scenery before you tackle it, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola takes visitors on a breathtaking trip between the summits of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. The Whistler Mountain Bike Park is arguably the best of its kind in the world. Here you can peddle your way through the tranquil coastal forest, or hold on tight as you tear through gnarled, rugged terrain. In Creekside you’ll find the restful waters of Nita Lake. Surrounded by greenery and teeming with trout, the calm oasis is a fruitful fishing spot. If shopaholics are feeling withdrawal among all of Whistler’s outdoorsy pursuits, Whistler Marketplace offers an avalanche of retail relief. From ski fashions to a bottle of the good stuff, the sprawling shopping center has it all.

Hotels in Whistler

A hive of tourism, there are hotels in Whistler to suit every taste, need, and budget. From rustic lakeside lodges, laden with luxury on the inside, to self contained cabins with room for all the family, Fido included. Large, sprawling hotels rule the roost however, with glamorous ski styled amenities including in-room fireplaces, steaming spas and swimming pools. The mid-range offers a toasty standard of comfort too, often wrapped up in the village’s distinct ‘mountain culture’ charm. You’ll find a good handful of budget hotels in Whistler too, along with quaint B&Bs and back-to-basics hostels dotted about the surrounding areas.

Where to stay

A hotel in Whistler Village puts you at the heart of the action. Reclining at the base of the two Mountains, the resort offers all the creature comforts you could wish for. Dining, shopping, and entertainment all run strong here, with stacks to keep you occupied during your days off from the slopes. At the base of Blackcomb, the Upper Village is a more serene alternative to the main hub. Set against fragrant alpines, you’ll be a snowball’s throw from all the skiing action. Historical Whistler Creekside is a more family orientated community. With heaps of activities and amenities to choose from, it’s an all-round people pleaser.

How to get to Whistler

If you’re coming from afar, Vancouver International Airport will be your gateway into the region. From there, getting into Whistler is a piece of cake with multiple shuttle services operating direct routes from the airport. Taking the scenic ‘Sea to Sky Highway’, coaches and buses take no longer than 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there. If you’re in no particular rush, the Rocky Mountaineer train runs from Vancouver to Whistler Station, boasting views of the Coast Mountains, Brandywine Falls, and Cheakamus Canyon along the way. While the sightseeing train isn’t the fastest way into town, it’s certainly the prettiest.
