Find out more about Textile Souk

Exploring Textile Souk

Textile Souk (also sometimes referred to as the “Old Souk”) is easily the prettiest in the city. It occupies an immaculately restored traditional bazaar, its long line of sand-coloured buildings shaded by a fine arched wooden roof, blissfully cool even in the heat of the day and illuminated by traditional Moorish hanging lights after dark. Once the most important bazaar in the city, its commercial importance has long since faded and now the shops sell everything from touristy souvenirs to colorful textures, weaves and embroidery from around the world.

Accommodations near Textile Souk

Dubai is a metropolis from one end of the skyscraper lined city to the other, so you will have no trouble finding different types of hotels; from luxurious to conventional, that meet your needs at every corner of the city. Recommended accommodation include the Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa, Astoria Hotel and York International Hotel.

Sightseeing near Textile Souk

- Dubai Museum

It’s housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, built in 1799 and the oldest surviving structure in town. In its history, the fort has served as residence for the ruling family, seat of government, garrison and prison. In a visit to this museum you will learn about how Dubai transitioned from a Bedouin village to global centre of commerce, finance and tourism.

- Grand Mosque

Originally built in 1900, demolished and built again in 1960, it then underwent a further rebuilding in 1998. This beautiful mosque has capacity for 1,200 worshippers. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the mosque, except the minaret from where photography is permitted. This mosque also features the tallest minaret in Dubai.

Transportation near Textile Souk

Most locals travel about by car as Dubai is spread out and not totally covered as well as it could be by public transport. The main tourist areas are well covered, however, with a couple of metro lines crossing the city. The bus system is fairly efficient and cheap, though busy, and there are meter taxis everywhere. Most hotels offer airport transfers and there are water taxis that cross the Creek, while those staying on Palm Jumeirah can make use of the monorail system.
