Where to Stay in Honolulu - From Luxury Beachfront Resorts to Budget-Friendly Hotels

Find a place to stay

Accommodations in Honolulu cater to the wide array of visitors the city receives. There's everything from romantic beachfront resorts that are perfect for honeymooners to budget-friendly hotels for families. You can find a place to stay almost anywhere in the city, but the most popular areas are Waikiki Beach and downtown. Both are notable for their proximity to sand, sun, and the city's top attractions.

Waikiki is, in many ways, synonymous with Honolulu. This is where you'll find world-famous Waikiki Beach with Diamond Head in the background. It's a convenient choice for accommodations because it provides access to some of the city's best restaurants and shopping, not to mention the beach. You can dine at Duke's Canoe Club with a view of the ocean and go shopping at the International Market Place. The area is always buzzing with activity, and it's where many of the tourists visiting Honolulu stay.

Not surprisingly, the beach is lined with hotels, many of which are high-end resorts. If you're looking for upscale amenities like spas and ocean views, you'll find them here. There are also budget-friendly hotels in the mix, although their services are not quite as extensive.

It also provides easy access to some top historic attractions like Iolani Palace and the Bishop Museum. You can also find the famous King Kamehameha statue and the Hawaii State Art Museum here.

Hotels in downtown Honolulu range from family-friendly accommodation to more upscale hotels geared toward corporate travelers. Many of these properties will offer their guests basic amenities like pools and breakfast.

You could say that Kahala is the Beverly Hills of Honolulu. It's one of the city's wealthiest neighborhoods and houses the area’s elite. Its location on the south side of the island means it has calm waters and pleasant weather. An added draw is that while it's set apart from Honolulu proper and Waikiki, both are within easy reach. Aside from swimming, you can shop the brand name and local retailers at Kahala Mall. Of course, it's always fun to go for a joyride and admire the million-dollar homes that dot the area.

Given the area's prestige, it should come as no surprise that it's full of high-end resorts. Accommodations here cater to an upscale clientele with amenities like beach access, spas, and exceptional on-site dining. Some of the resorts have even hosted celebrities and royals, and families are always welcome.
